Trying to switch from opensource to nvidia drivers, bumblebee conflicts with prime

I can’t use blender until my open gl upgrades, so I figured to finally switch to the proprietary drivers should that be the path. Upon trying in the hardware configuration manager, i got this error message “Error: config ‘video-hybrid-intel-nvidia-390xx-bumblebee’ conflicts with config(s): video-hybrid-intel-nvidia-470xx-prime”

How should I proceed?

Please help us help you:

You already have the proprietary 470xx drivers installed. How you did that is beyond me as your card only supports the 390xx series.

Remove the currently installed driver:

sudo mhwd -r pci video-hybrid-intel-nvidia-470xx-prime

Then install the proper driver via automatic detection:

sudo mhwd -a pci nonfree 0300

I defintitely do not remember how that could have happened. Manjaro has been on this laptop for a few years and i have not tinkered in a while.

trying to remove the driver results in a dependency error

optimus-manager-git prevents the removal
and it is an AUR package

You should probably remove it in order to continue - but I don’t know the consequences.
It could always be reinstalled, though.

I took a chance, remove optimus, removed 4700, and installed 390XX. Now, my second monitor isn’t detected, and upon trying to reinstall optimus, this error :could not satisfy dependencies:

  • removing bumblebee breaks dependency ‘bumblebee’ required by lib32-primus
    "

I only see one package by that name — lib32-primus-vk-git — and it’s from the AUR. Remove it.

it isn’t installed

The error message above says otherwise. :man_shrugging:

like in the above post, where optimus-manager-git was what prevented the removal
it is here/now a package called lib32-primus

uups - I intended to respond to @kiliman-jaro
not to you @Aragorn

But there is no such package in the repos. There is however a lib32-primus-vk-git in the AUR.

Do you have the multilib repo disabled? Because there is definitely a lib32-primus package in Manjaro’s repos:

mbn can be found in the manjaro-check-repos package

Yes. I guess that’s why I’m not seeing it.

Anyhow, if that’s what’s standing in the way of his removal of bumblebee, then he should remove it first.

That’s not the one. Obviously you have a package called lib32-primus installed. That’s the one you should remove.

sudo pacman -Rns lib32-primus

Don’t mind me. I was just passing through the neighborhood. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

i removed lib32-primus and have the same error again trying to install optimus-manager-git

… but optimus-manager-git is already installed and it needs to be removed because it prevents the removal of linux515-nvidia-470xx :man_shrugging:

I removed it and the 470xx drivers and installed the 390xx drivers. Now, the second monitor is no longer detected using xrandr

I attempted to reinstall optimus-manager-git in case it was necessary before the initial driver removal

I can assist a little bit with interpreting the messages you get when trying and failing to remove things.
I cannot speak at all to anything related to dual graphic card setups, especially when NVIDIA is involved.

I’m totally ignorant in this regard, have no personal experience to draw on - and no such hardware.
