Trying to connect to wifi

Your profile states you're on kernel 4.20. As that kernel is End Of Life (EOL) you might want to test some of the newer kernels, as well as older if you still can't get things working.

Oh my god, thank you so much. It worked right after this step! Thanks again!

You really shouldn't have to do that step. It should be installed as a dependency. I include that in the tutorial because sometimes it isn't automatically installed for some reason.

Glad you got it working.

So the problem now is that it's struggling to hold a connection to my wifi. Should I continue the steps that you gave?

Please post the output of the following commands:

hwinfo --netcard --wlan --bluetooth | grep -Ei "model\:|driver\:|status\:|cmd\:|file\:|detected\:" | grep -v "Config Status"
lsmod | sort
dkms status
dmesg | grep -i 'error\|seg\|fail\|broke\|warn\|dump\|denied\|broken\|wl'
pacman -Qsq linux | grep linux | grep -v -E '(arch|util|sys|api|firmware)' | grep -v nvidia

Post the inputs and outputs of all the above commands. Post each input/output within its own separate code tags. Please do not string all outputs together in one long continuous command output.

You will need to properly format your command outputs to make them easily human readable. All command outputs need to be enclosed in code tags to present the information in an easily decipherable manner.

Information on how to properly post hardware specs and logs:

Please format any terminal output with three backticks before and after, as shown in this picture:

^^^ This.

Install kernels 5.0 & 5.1 through Manjaro Settings Manager, and always have at least two kernels installed at all times for safety.

Also, be sure to test disabling IPv6:

To disable IPV6:

Right click on the Network Manager taskbar icon.

Click on configure network connection.

Go into your connections properties in Network Manager and select the IPv6 tab on the right side.

In the connection properties disable IPv6 from within network manager.

Either set IPv6 to "ignore", or be sure that "IPV6 is required for this connection" is not checked.

Also disable IPv6 from within your router configuration settings (if that option is available).

Reboot both the computer and router after making the changes.

Okay, so installed 5.0 and 5.1. After that I thought I was supposed to uninstall 4.20. After doing all that since 4.20 was still running, I did a quick reboot. Now my wirelesss network won't show up again.

sudo wifi

wifi = none (no device)

I don't know what happened. Sorry this is getting out of hand. I can also do the other commands if you need. Such as hwinfo --netcard --wlan --bluetooth | grep -Ei "model\:|driver\:|status\:|cmd\:|file\:|detected\:" | grep -v "Config Status"

Please do.

The other commands will tell me if you have something improperly configured. Without actually being on your computer the terminal outputs are the only way to diagnose what's wrong.

Are you running kernel 5 right now, switch from the RC 5.1 to 5.0.

Dumb question, but how do I go about switching?

I installed both, and it automatically ran 5.1 and not 5.0 after my reboot

You reboot, then when the computer starts up you begin pressing the ESC key every second or so until the grub boot menu appears. In the grub menu use the down arrow key to select advanced. Then select kernel 5.0 from the menu. Dont select the fallback version.

Then continue booting.

Once you've started check which kernel you are in to be sure your in 5.0

Awesome, I just checked and now I'm running 5.0

Your output of dkms status did not show any dkms drivers installed.

Install the driver.

sudo pacman -S broadcom-wl-dkms

Once it is completed installing reboot.

Make sure you boot into 5.0.

Once you have restarted post the input and output of:

dkms status

I have connection now, but I'll still proceed with the process in case there's more I need to do. Thanks for all this by the way. You're a life saver.
