Task manager hangs on startup

Manjaro has been installed for about 3 weeks now, without many issues.

A few days ago i noticed that after i login, when i try to launch an application or open the network manager, the entire taskbar freezes for up to 2 minutes. Then, everything pops up at once. The application i opened, the network manager, everything i clicked on. From then on, it generally acts fine until the next time I reboot.

I set the system monitor to open on startup so i could see any resource spikes when this happens, but both RAM and CPU usage remain normal, and well below max.

Also, sometimes when i open an application, It immediately stops responding and i either have to completely kill it or wait 2 minutes just like on startup. I suspect this is related.

EDIT: I’ve noticed that when these hang-ups happen, all resource actually grinds to a halt, instead of increasing like you’d usually expect. Then it spikes once everything starts up again INCLUDING network usage! Last time time my system froze, i was waiting on a search on DuckDuckGo to load, even though this would usually be almost instant. The more i learn about this issue, the less sense it makes.

I have no idea what’s causing this, especially since my RAM and CPU usage don’t spike at all during these incidents, and i haven’t had any issues for the first 2 weeks of usage.

Below is my system info:

  • Kernel 5.13 is EOL so please install both 5.4 and 5.10 LTS (Long Term Support) and see which one of the two troubles you least.

:crossed_fingers:

The solution was irritatingly obvious: the bios needed updating. Every single one of my problems vanished as soon as i did that.
