I can only take a guess because you did not provide any system information.

There are several issues with the ELAN series of touchpads. The kernel developers are working on it. A quick web search will give you an idea of the problems.

I am guessing from this line, you are on an Acer laptop. In some Acer laptops there is an option in the bios to change the touchpad from “advanced” to “basic” mode.

Finally, when you post a question, it is generally a good manners to give your system information. You can find that by typing inxi -Fxxz in the terminal.

and replace/add the ELAN0501 instead of the one from that example.

The other option is to have the driver reset itself periodically. This is an option that I had to do. You can find information on it here:
