The Latest Stable Update Broke Chromium & Firefox

After the latest stable manjaro32 update,

Chromium & Firefox Nightly will not open so I had to restore my manjaro32 to one of my latest snapshots

Must be a core/icu issue or something I don't know

Chromium:

error while loading shared libraries: libicui18n.so.64

Firefox Nightly:

manjaro32 is 'on ice' since the maintainer @anon47818119 has been on a long hiatus with no known time-frame.
As much as I hate to say it .. it may be time to look elsewhere for 32 support (arch32?) .. as there is just no knowing when/how manjaro32 will be maintained.

I don't think Archlinux32 is in a better shape either. 32 bits only PC are in their downward spiral. Let the dead bury the dead.

Well, Archlinux32 seems to be in better shape than I thought. Here are some screenshot of Archlinux32 + Xfce (all stable repositories). I know, it is ugly, but it is the genuine aspect of Xfce here.

Yes, only linux 5.4.2 on stable repositories for now.

Neofetch, please?

And cherry on the cake, pamac 9.3.0-beta2 on it... I'm pamac-aur-git maintainer, so... :slight_smile:

Last but not the least, Mozilla Firefox. Too bad translation fire are not synced on stable repositories :frowning:

You may want to switch to unstable. FF is working properly there. However, I do agree that arch32 may be a better answer currently.

Thanks man but I don't think I can use nothing but manjaro kde plasma :confused:

Ok, I found a glitch! I just found out my manjaro32 wasn't up to date. After updating it FF didn't open. Diagnosing the issue led me to conclude FF was replaced by the nightly version.

[isa@ceci-pc ~]$ which firefox
/usr/local/bin/firefox

So, I figured out launching FF from the terminal launched it, but launching it from the menu did nothing. After editing the .dektop file /usr/share/applications/firefox.desktop I saw this file contained the following two lines:

Exec=/usr/lib/firefox/firefox %u
Exec=/usr/lib/firefox/firefox --private-window %u

I just edited that file with the following lines:

Exec=/usr/local/bin/firefox %u
Exec=/usr/local/bin/firefox --private-window %u

And now it launches properly. This is probably a packaging issue. Hope this helps.

PS: I'm on unstable repo. I have no idea if this applies to the stable repo as well.

is it safe to install the updates yet? do chromium & ff work properly?

ff : just use the hint of mbb
chromium : it will not work until it has been recompiled against icu65

In my case both Firefox and Chromium do not start when clicked on its icon via Manjaro32 Menu (left bottom) .

But firefox starts properly from a console.

And there is an error when I try to start chromium in the console:

 chromium
/usr/lib/chromium/chromium: error while loading shared libraries: libicui18n.so.64: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Chromium needs to be rebuilt against new icu version.
