"Temporary error during name resolution" after several minutes WiFi Connection

After several minutes connecting to any WiFi (tested with a lot of different Access Points) my laptop has no internet access anymore. The WiFi signal is good, so that’s not the reason.

wolf@wolf-aspire:~$ ping google.de
ping: google.de: Temporärer Fehler bei der Namensauflösung

it’s German terminal, so the translation is “Temporary error during name resolution”

This is the /etc/resolv.conf and the inxi output while the problem persists:

When I manually reconnect to the same WiFi network the name resolution is working again.
No idea what is the problem and when it started exactly.

That’s an impressive spray of errors, I thought inxi suppressed curl errors but apparently not. I assume dig also failed, assuming you have that installed, but it failed gracefully.

I’m going to have to check that section, the error suppression should have kept those errors from showing. Not sure what was trying to print out each time one failed, I’ll have to check that too.

As an aside, it’s a lot easier to type: inxi -zav7 than that sentence of arguments you used. --width or -y (80 columns) is the default so it’s implied and doesn’t need to be used explicitly unless you are overriding a user configuration width. -y was made default a while ago.

I’ll have to figure out some way to break resolver to duplicate this issue, but the error handlers should have handled that much better than they did.

Hello @exaveal

Does the same appear when using IPv4?

ping -4 google.de

Could be a wrong nameserver address? Is it auto generated?

This issue is resolved in pinxi, and will be in next inxi. Case where dig installed but failed failed to set downloader data, like quiet option, leading to the above spray of errors. This bug has been there a while, but would only show in cases where dig fails to get wan ip data, but is installed, I think.

Unrelated to the OP issue, except that his situation exposed this issue in inxi.

The nameserver address ist auto generated.

I switched the linux kernel back from 5.15.32-1 (with the described problems) to the last one working: 5.10.109-1
Now the problems are gone. Network including Nameresolution is working stable.

I’m currently on a trip. When I’m back home next week I will retry and test with your ip4-command.
