UPDATE; Thank you for the 07-20 link, it lead me to this—and that’s what I needed. Specifically syncing the EFI fallback image. This might explain my failing to get to the grub menu after the last two UEFI “BIOS” updates I’d applied.
After flashing the latest firmware update, changing settings according to this post I booted back into the desktop.
