[Testing Update] 2024-06-03 - Kernels, Systemd, Plymouth, Firefox, Thunderbird, Qt5

That pretty much exactly describes my issues and as I mentioned above, the only cure was downgrading the kernel.

The updates went smoothly.

I did some more testing. On two other notebooks (Medion Akoya and Fujitsu Lifebook E754) I experience this problem. My next step was to evaluate whether it’s device specific, so I tested with my Shure BT1 on my main notebook. They also have the problem, but this time they only connect with the Headset Profile (A2DP) and not with HFP. Disabling and reenabling helps again.

This didn’t help in my case, Lenovo Legion5 Intel/Nvidia. Only connects i Headset profile, I get garbled sound for a couple of seconds, then silence, then garbled sound again, and so on.

I also noted the Bluetooth issue after the update. First connection makes the sound be muffled and in horrible quality. Disabling and re-enabling does help in my case.

Is there a package to downgrade to fix it until the patched version comes in?

I switched to the testing branch yesterday from stable, just to test something out, and lightdm failed to launch on my xfce system after upgrading the ~12 or so packages that needed upgrading (it was a single line error on my screen on boot). I just rolled back to stable and downgraded without investigating further. I would imagine it had something to do with the plymouth upgrade, but perhaps systemd.

Kwave is broken. Tested on 3 systems with intel MeteorLake, AlderLake and AMD Cezanne on kernel 6.6 and 6.9

Works again after testing update 11.06.24 :+1:

After bisecting the commit that is causing the bluetooth problems I mailed to the necessary kernel mailing lists and was requested to open up an issue at bluez.

For reference: Bluetooth Kernel Bug: After connecting either HFP/HSP or A2DP is not available (Regression in 6.9.3, 6.8.12) · Issue #865 · bluez/bluez · GitHub

Edit: The issue could be identified. I successfully tested a patch that will fix the issue.

For some reason, after this update, none of my browsers( Brave, Firefox, Vivaldi, Opera) can play videos, not on youtube or Twitter or other websites. When clicking play it starts loading then stops and cpu goes high to 90-100%. Moreover VLC can’t reproduce audio anymore. Mpv works.
I’m on an HP laptop on XFCE X11 Kernel 66.
Tried other kernel with no help.
Tried downgrading Mesa but nothing.
Downgrading qt5-webengine but nothing.
I’m not sure what to do. Hope someone help. Thank you.
Edit: I switched on another partition where i have a Manjaro KDE installed (but not updated), and everything works.

Data from inxi shows system has pulseaudio rather than pipewire-pulse, but it does not show if pulseaudio-bluetooth installed to support Bluetooth audio

pulseaudio-bluetooth was last updated 17 Jan 2024

Thank you for your reply, i verified and pulseaudio-bluetooth is installed.
Should i choose from pipewire or pulseaudio and uninstall one of them?
I have pipewire pipewire-alsa pipewire-audio pipewire-session-manager installed.
But i have lot of pulseaudio installed too.

Manjaro users can install metapackages to switch between audio servers

pamac install manjaro-pipewire

To replace pulseaudio + pulseaudio-alsa + pulseaudio-bluetooth with pipewire-pulse + pipewire-alsa

pamac install manjaro-pulse

To replace pipewire-pulse + pipewire-alsa with pulseaudio + pulseaudio-alsa + pulseaudio-bluetooth

Wow, thank you so much. I chose to install manjaro-pipewire to replace pulseaudio and everything is back to normal now.
I see i still have pulseaudio-equalizer-ladspa and pulseaudio-ctl.
Should i remove them too?

With kernel 6.9.3-3 the bluetooth problems are gone now. 6.8.12-3 should also fix the issue.

We changed how Nvidia drivers use DRM by default. Hybrid systems however use simpledrm to display plymouth. Currently we revert changes made to the nvidia modules.
