The libtraceevent package prior to version 5.9-1 was missing a soname link. This has been fixed in 5.9-1, so the upgrade will need to overwrite the untracked files created by ldconfig. If you get any of these errors
libtraceevent: /usr/lib/libtraceevent.so.1 exists in filesystem
PAM and PAMBASE got updated, which might prevent you from login
Due to updates from pambase and pam you might take care about any .pacnew files in /etc/pam.d as for example pam_tally, pam_tally2 and pam_cracklib got deprecated. Read in the ArchWiki about managing those files.
Typical issue:
For recovery, it is enough to boot with kernel option “systemd.unit=rescue.target”, then proceed into /etc/pam.d and merge “system-auth” and “system-auth.pacnew”
System takes a long time to boot
If you’ve got errors like Failed to start Network Manager Wait Online. you can try removing systemd from passwd and group in /etc/nsswitch.conf as described here Update: If you can see the line dbus-daemon[1453]: [system] Connection has not authenticated soon enough, closing it (auth_timeout=30000ms, elapsed: 45146ms)
in in your dbus log ( journalctl -b -u dbus ), the new/better workaround is to switch cups from service to socket as described here: systemctl disable org.cups.cupsd.service systemctl enable org.cups.cupsd.socket
I think I’ve some font problems
With the update of fontconfig some major rules how fonts get applied changed. Make sure that your system has ttf-dejavu installed. A more in depth explanation can be found here.
Gnome-shell-extension-pop-shell is currently incompatible with wayland
… and causes the system to freeze when the first window is tiled and can render it unbootable. Solution is a hard reset and disabling either pop shell or wayland. If the system becomes unbootable, use a live USB to edit /etc/gdm/custom.conf to disable wayland and reboot.
Hi.
Little warning with libcap>=2.45 wich is a dependency of lib32-libcap.
I succeed to update without it after accept …
avertissement : impossible de résoudre « libcap=2.45 », une dépendance de « lib32-libcap »
:: Le paquet suivant ne peut être mis à jour à cause de dépendances insolubles :
lib32-libcap
:: Voulez-vous ignorer le paquet ci-dessus pour cette mise à jour ? [o/N] o
Edit: I saw a second update with licap-2.45-2 . Everything is in order now.
My system won’t boot into kernel 5.8 after this update. It complains about not finding /boot/efi and not recognizing the local file system.
Booting into both 5.9 and 5.4 lts works. The former I can’t use due to nvidia (it seems the lacking driver makes my computer fans active at all times), so I guess I’ll have to use the lts kernel until the situation is fixed with proper drivers.
I suggest everyone who has laptops with USB type C ports chargers to test new kernels 5.9 and 5.10 with respect to laptop’s behaviour when connecting and disconnecting such chargers. Are such events are handled correctly now? Are there any regressions? For example, auto-changing brightness, applying tlp modes and so on.
When installing updates, Pamac returned the following:

after todays updates and a reboot my desktop(plasma) took like 5m to load everything after i hit the login button. just black screens and a mouse cursor until. same thing after a couple reboots. 3rd times a charm but ill keep an eye on it. sorry i dont have better info other than it was a struggle to get the desktop/apps loaded.
On my system Discover Software Center does not load from the Gnome Launcher. Looking at the application, I can change the shebang line to #!/usr/bin/env python to #!/usr/bin/python which allows it to run. I have had similar issues with other applications that call python the same way (e.g. gnome tweaks).
I do not know why /usr/bin/env python fails for me for these appllications. Perhaps it is because I have Conda installed?
Hi, do you have any issues with Firefox 83 using hardware acceleration / 3D mode / smooth zoom in Google Maps ? Webgl seems to work well on other websites.
My system boots into a black screen with an underscore blinking at the top left.
I can switch TTYs and I can run commands okay, I believe it’s an X11/Nvidia issue.
Trying startx results in errors, /var/log/Xorg.0.log suggest “Failed to initialize NVIDIA kernel module”.
Any ideas?
I’ve updated to 5.9 yesterday and shut the machine down.
EDIT:
I had to manually install the nvidia 455 utils, they weren’t installed.
I also had to manually resolve conflicts between 455 and 440 versions (for all the kernels I have on my system, so 4 or 5 packages needed removing manually).
When I resolved those, went through the installation and rebooted, it all clicked.
Now I’m wondering, if this is done automatically usually, why did it not happen this time.
Those features in Google Maps were not working for me after the update.
I checked in about:support and saw that under Compositing it said Basic, not OpenGL. However, enabling WebRender brought back the respective features in Google Maps.
Did you manually force the OpenGL compositor in your browser ?
I can confirm it works for me with OpenGL too now, although I did not change any configuration file before the update.
Yes, I enable OpenGL compositing manually. I don’t use webrender, though, because it gives nasty tearing on my screen. And also, yes, I remember that 3D google map can run even without OpenGL compositing before. Perhaps something does change in firefox, or maybe it’s just the 3D map that require OpenGL compositing to be enabled. I don’t know. Anyway, glad to know if it is working for you now.
