Pamac stuck at "Preparing..."

Users have reported issues with the recent release candidate of Pamac 9.4.0 when initiating transactions, being stuck at "Preparing..." without being able to cancel the transaction and quit Pamac normally.

For now, it is recommended to use pacman to do package management until this issue is solved and Pamac become usable again. Please test out upcoming updates for Pamac to see if the issue becomes solved or not.

If you are stuck in "Preparing...", you will have to manually kill the pamac-managerprocess.

Reported on Gitlab:

Upgrading firewalld package to 0.8.1-2 requires manual intervention

Please read this announcement if you have file conflicts when trying to upgrade firewalld package to 0.8.1-2.

Firewalld requires manual intervention

khotkeys identified as an orphaned package

You can remove that package, but might loose some functionality with your key-bindings. We made it now optional to be installed.

Weird font glitches (see screenshots below).

If you have weird glitches like below...

... have you tried turning it off and on again?

More seriously, so far, people that reported to have such issue noticed that the problem goes away at next boot.

Installing xorgproto (2019.2-2) breaks dependency of a package

If you run into an issue because of xorgproto please DON'T follow the Arch suggestion as Manjaro uses the xorgproto-transfer package to make this automatic. If you have an issue, please report and wait for an update from us!

AUR Rebuilds required after updating python 3.7 to 3.8

Packages that depend on python from the AUR will need to be rebuilt after everything else has been updated. You can rebuild some of them with the following:

sudo pacman -S --needed --noconfirm expac yay
yay -S --rebuildtree $(pacman -Qmq $(expac %N python))

You can find other packages that need to be rebuilt by looking at the folders/files in

/usr/lib/python3.7/site-packages/

To find out what package owns a folder/file in that, you can use the following:

pacman -Qo folder_or_filename

If no package owns a file, it can probably be ignored.

System Settings and kinfocenter crash when entering Night Color settings randomly

Remove entire [NightColor] section of ~/.config/kwinrc

xfce4-power-manager does not open / upower fails

Install kernel 4.14 or higher (4.14, 4.19, 5.2 [EOL], 5.3)

There is an issue with upower 0.99.11-1 on kernels 4.4 and 4.9.

xfce4-terminal / guake / gnome-terminal does not open

Update to vte3 0.58.2-1 or install kernel 4.14 or higher (4.14, 4.19, 5.2 [EOL], 5.3)

There is an issue with vte3 0.58.1-1 on kernels 4.4 and 4.9.

Replace linux52 with community/linux-latest ?

linux52 is EOL and has been removed from the repositories. It will be replaced by a metapackage which will from now on keep you on a maintained kernel.

If you want to keep the old kernel and modules then include them in your pacman.conf's IgnorePkg.

gnome-shell-extension-desktop-icons

the pkgver 19.10.1 ship with an hook to remove the capability from gnome-shell. A message is present during install but essentially you need to reboot the system to show correctly the icons in the desktop. More info here

I have problems:

  • Arc menu have blak space on dash to panel after icon (image) and i cannot open setting for it (error)
  • system-monitor ext does not work at all (maybe extation issue but it should work on gnome 3.36
  • Programs menu does not show programs and when i click on "Recently used" shell restart

Any fix?

Always use provided binary extensions by Manjaro and not extensions available thru https://extensions.gnome.org

sudo pacman -S gnome-shell-extension-arc-menu

I got a couple of new orphans:

$ pacman -Qdt
boost 1.72.0-1
lv2 1.16.0-3

No immediate breakage after removing them and rebooting.

Not really an issue but some graphical glitches:

  • Nightmode at login screen does not respect color temperature settings, after login it's ok
  • use Matcha-azul theme and click the clock at the top bar. The panel is white instead of black and the clock is highlighted green instead of blue

Thanks i fixes system-monitor by instaling from aur and after few reinstalls i dont have that blank space in arc menu icon but i still cannot run preferences of arc and program list does not works

All the apps work well here!
I only have some problem on login at boot and lock screen:
The input box on startup is too large and not centered... Lockscreen has same problems and also have the hour very very small... However it looks like if they don't follow the shell theme
EDIT: another thing I see only now: in the menu folders I'm not able to see the last line of apps

Cannot install gnome-shell-extension-arc-menu.

# sudo pacman -S gnome-shell-extension-arc-menu

I've been using a Realtek USB wifi adapter w/o issues until today. Now the adapter is shown in lsusb, but it doesn't power on (no blue lights) and is not listed in lspci. It works fine in the same machine booted into windows 10. I'm stymied.

neither fcitx-mozc or ibus-mozc are working

all good here, systemd 245 is also working correctly. no screwed up dates in systemd-analayze blame with this build

@matthewls try kernel 4.19 LTS instead and see if that helps. I don't recommend using 5.6 release candidates.

This update went smooth and good. The manjaro system runs faster cool than before for my KDE desktop :metal: :+1:

Nothing to report 102 updated packages under KDE
Only one problem since this update that I can't solve:

● plexmediaserver.service - Plex Media Server
Loaded: loaded (/usr/lib/systemd/system/plexmediaserver.service; enabled; vendor preset: disabled)
     Active: activating (auto-restart) (Result: core-dump) since Mon 2020-03-16 01:56:44 CET; 4s ago
    Process: 8210 ExecStart=/usr/lib/plexmediaserver/Plex Media Server (code=dumped, signal=ABRT)
   Main PID: 8210 (code=dumped, signal=ABRT)

And when I try to launch manually /usr/lib/plexmediaserver/ plex Media Server
The error is :

sudo /usr/lib/plexmediaserver/Plex\ Media\ Server
terminate called after throwing an instance of 'std::runtime_error'
  what():  locale::facet::_S_create_c_locale name not valid
Aborted

What can I do with it ?

168 updates in all and just launched Plex and looks good here.

The upgrade went smoothly on my side on my Laptop with Manjaro Cinnamon. Did the system upgrade (including systemd upgrade) with Pamac GTK 9.4.0rc4.

EDIT: Immediately after upgrade, I could not use USB flash drives. After a complete reboot, no problem. :+1:
(Considering that I had upgraded Linux and systemd in addition to other stuff, I pretty much had to reboot anyway.)

For anyone who wants it...

  • 12/3/20: With kernel 5.5.8, systemd 244.3-2, & Plasma 5.18.3, all DMESGs still show during bootup.

  • 16/3/20: With kernel 5.5.9, systemd 245-3, & Plasma 5.18.3, no DMESGs show during bootup. As discovered in Arch & MJ Unstable, editing grub & deleting quiet, fixes this new systemd default behaviour, ie, again allowing DMESGs to show during bootup.

Fwiw.
