Hi Community!

here comes your next Testing Update is here!

As you might guess from the title, the amount of packages is quite huge but should be prepared, tested and amended enough now to move on, especially because some of the updates and fixes have been awaited impatiently by some of you guys :sunglasses:
So here you go!

The update includes

  • GCC 8.3.0
  • a bunch of kernel point releases
  • QT 5.12.3
  • KDE framework 5.57
  • KDE applications 19.04.0
  • updates for the Deepin Desktop Environment
  • Mesa 19.0.3
  • LibreOffice (fresh) 6.2.3
  • Manjaro Settings Manager 0.5.6
  • VirtualBox 6.0.6 (fixing the boot issues for Win7 guests)

EDITs:

  • A few more packages got added just now, namely Systemd 242.16, as mentioned below :slight_smile: .
  • Linuxmint's xplayer has stopped working with latest gstreamer and we have decided to drop the package altogether.

Manjaro v18.0.4 released!

We updated our flagship ISOs of Manjaro Illyria with the latest packages. It comes with refreshed packages and updated tools. You may want to download our XFCE Edition with the latest 4.13 packages, aswell as our most recent styling efforts. Our KDE fans may try our KDE Edition with the latest KDE v5.15 instead. And our GNOME fans may try our Gnome Edition with the latest GNOME v3.30.

Hi @oberon!
Could you please explain where can I find linux51 PKGBUILD as the latest one in Manjaro's gitlab is linux50? I'd love to try to build rc6 on my machine in "Manjaro way". I know about linux-mainline but that's for Arch and it takes really a lot of space and time to build that package.

Unfortunately we failed to move it to gitlab before Philip left for his trip. Sorry, it will only be available in about two weeks.
For now of course you could adjust the linux50 PKGBUILD accordingly, just of course I can not guarantee which patches you might be missing like that.

Moved from unstable to testing, no issues so far.

Can only repeat myself, you guys do an awesome job! I never ran anything as cutting edge but yet stable and suitable for day to day work. Suddenly running an OS is fun again...or maybe I am just a nerd :grinning:

Nah, am abandoning tonight's repeated efforts to do this update. Shall sleep on it & try again tomorrow when maybe the interwebs' current 1s & 0s logjam has passed. Despite my general [non-Manjaro] d/l speeds remaining ~21 Mbps, & despite again refreshing the mirror list, i've only been getting approx 1 bit per decade...'ish. Clearly those pesky bits get all confused by the opposite Coriolis Acceleration once they try to get across the equator. :crazy_face:

Well, managed to handle this! Just skipped patches for aufs and bootsplash (as well as tpm and elan ones as they are not needed for 5.1). Built nvidia-430 too (418.56 has problems with linux 5.1). All works perfectly fine for now. If anyone is going to do the same: make sure to build nvidia modules for every kernel you have installed (e.g. 5.0 and 4.19, as in my case) by editing nvidia-430.09's PKGBUILD and nvidia.install accordingly, because nvidia module should be updated for all kernels.

the bootsplash patches still worked for me on rc5.
Did you try to build it with them and it failed or did you just throw them out without trying?

Just decided not to mess with them, because I knew I wouldn't use bootsplash as I am quite OK with simple manufacturer logo during boot. Bootsplash is a thing I actually like but it hides luks password prompt so I stopped using it long ago.

UPD: yep, bootsplash patches applied w/o errors. Adding aufs patches seems to be somewhat more complicated (not sure if I need it at all though).

Yikes.

Humans will be well and truly extinct by the time this download completes, which is a shame, tis a good update. Hope the subsequent update it doesn't crash partway through, or maybe our sun will be a red giant by then ... ready to swallow the our little space rock whole, including your now potentially unbootable system.

...after which i deployed @jonathon's Four Step Nuclear Option [to purge then recreate the keys] then reissued my umpteenth sudo pacman -Syyu.

It seems happier this time; all downloads finished ok, package updates are nearly finished. Rebooted VM & logged in ok. Sigh, such fun. Tomorrow, hopefully real Manjaro will go smoother for its update.
