#14

@philm Could you please push the gimp-devel PKGBUILD to packages-community and the extramodule pkgbumps to packages-extra? :kissing_heart:

#15

Ok, will have to pull that from there as the current verion in testing keeps crashing my gnome-shell session; Not always but sometimes when I either accept or deny the notification the shell either death freezes or crashes back to GDM login.

Well - fair enough - switching to unstable did not bring any new packages ^^

#16

Seems we have a new regression with the latest update-notifier. @Chrysostomus. Please double-check your latest changes made to that application.

Will do the needed rebuild.

I assume you have an Intel CPU. Those are vulnerable since the Pentium age. Solution would be to get rid of it and buy an AMD CPU, which are not affected by this. We had added needed fixes for Intel CPU within this new kernel release. To disable the fix you may pass pti = off, which disables the built-in kernel protection on Intel hardware.

Will do.

#17

Is this on live system? Do you have internet connection? What is the version of the update-notifier?

#18

Yes, I have an old Intel Quad Core Q6600, launched on January 2007 (according to the Wikipedia).

Do you mean that when this patch arrive to the stable branch I will not able to start the computer? :open_mouth:

I don’t care if I have to pass the this parameter in the VB machine, but not in my PC because I need it for work.

Regards. :grinning:

#19

You can test it yourself by switching to testing branch. More info about this you can read here.

#20

Your PC should continue to operate normally. Just possibly at a reduced performance under certain workloads (according to Intel).

#21

Piufff… After updated my VBox test installation I was scared about having the same issue on my PC.

Thank you very much!!

#22

The problem might be, that your host isn’t patched yet and therefore the patched VM doesn’t work …

#23

1.000.000 of thanks for the clarification!! I’ll wait the update and see.

Best regards!! :grinning:

#24

No its a installed system carried through from 16.X era - first on stable for view months but ever since the year 2017 I am on testing.

Yes - heppens with internet privided by home wlan (working) and also with internet provided via LTE (internal modem, working).

gnome-shell-extension-manjaro-update 3.3-1 from community

#25

@Th3Z0ne: what is the output of pacman -Q update-notifier?

#26

pacman -Q update-notifier >> update-notifier 0.7-1

#27

Tested on several machines now, no apparent issues for me.

#28

Thank you. I need to find some less error prone mechanism for testing this.

#29

After I upgraded my plasma desktop to 5.11.5 I can no longer use the applications menu.
Whenever I launch it, my Plasma Desktop crashes needing to reboot to fix it.

I tried downgrading plasma-desktop to 5.11.4, but it still does the same.

Here’s the Trace from the plasma debugger:

Anything I can do to fix it?

krunner launches the applications fine.

#30

Well, that’s not debug info that can point to exact problem but I guess that error happens during processing of some .qml file (possibly corrupt?). Applications menu? you mean menu in which you can launch applications? Seems it works to me…

#31

Yeah. That menu.
Rebooted, re-added widget, downgraded, updated. It’s not working. No matter if I click on it or use the Super key.

#32

Same crashes for menu alternatives (ie launcher and dashboard)?

Tried removing the panel and adding a new one?

New user with a clean profile still experience crashes?

#33

Same crashes for other application launchers it seems.

Now the desktop wont even load on reboot.

New user does not have this problem…
