repo is version 6.8.2-3 while the lastest build is 6.9.3

…you’ll notice that version 6.9.3 has only been released ±5 hours ago. Even the Unstable branch only has version 6.9.2:
In other words, it’s on it’s way.

Given the current situation, I wouldn’t recommend that. It is popular enough a package to have been compromised by the miscreants hitting the AUR with malware right now. 
For the moment I would either wait for the repository package or use the official Flatpak. I would avoid switching to an AUR binary package just to get one Telegram point release faster, especially while the AUR incident is active. Installing the tarball from Telegram’s site works too, but then it is one more updater outside pacman, so Flatpak is the cleaner temporary workaround for most desktop setups.

The issue that needs fixing is that someone can create an account, then adopt as many orphaned packages as they like, and then instantly start twiddling.
The AUR represents freedom, but the degree of that freedom is now out of the bag - so for now, I think it’s just been made much harder to create those new accounts.
The future should see limits on reputation or account age set on someone to get the authority to adopt packages.

But those two packages, the -desktop-dev and the -tdlib-purple-git aren’t really the ones that anyone’s going to install if they want Telegram anyway… so I’d say about zero risk there.
And the flatpak version just got updated to 6.9.3. released 2 days ago. Note that this is an official flatpak (because flatpak also accepts user content so one has to be careful).
I think we have a clear winner here.
Telegram is the only application I used that doesn’t come from any repo (Manjaro or AUR). I use the Linux desktop version available in their web and uncompress it to /opt/Telegram. When an update is available, it’s just a matter of pressing the “Update” button. This version creates automatically the .desktop-file for the desktop environment.
