Taskbar missing after latest update

After updating, and restarting, one monitor showed Firefox with previous tabs of one window open, and a blank Manjaro screen on the other monitor. It then froze. This happened again on restarting (via the tty), and again three more times.

At the moment I can use the browsers, and ALT+TAB between programs, and open up the terminal using CTRL+ALT+T, but the taskbar is missing. Because the taskbar is missing, I obviously can’t do things like switch between virtual desktops, open up programs from the GUI, check if the speakers will show in PulseAudio, etc.

Same issue when launching with kernel 5.7.19-2-MANJARO x86_64, 5.4, 4.19, 4.14.

You are using KDE Plasma GIT version and you switched from unstable to testing, or stable, then you can expect all sorts of inconsistencies and malfunctions. The GIT version is not ready for daily use, unless you know exactly what to do in what situation. Above that you have some AUR packages instead of community install of the same package. Chasing all this sort of trails for what is failing, is counterproductive …
Also, please remove the mhwd-catalyst … it has absolutely no benefit of having it installed …

This is quite conclusive you use the GIT version, but quite possible with builds from AUR too …

When this happens, and you want to revert to the “normal” KDE Plasma version, things will fail badly. Most of your configuration files in Home need to be wiped out … but still is not quite a bulletproof to sort it out. Let’s see if you get from other members of the community a procedure that i’m not aware of, and works

The missing taskbar might be a more general KDE Plasma bug that is also occuring since at least several stable versions. I see it occur occasionally here and on other machines.
Bug reports here and there, but seemingly no solutions yet.

Only some hacks to get the panel back.
The one that does the job here without loosing the taskbar customizations:
rm ~/.config/Trolltech.conf
kbuildsycoca5 --noincremental
systemctl reboot

Sometimes just rebooting will do.

Bugs affect all systems. I have no such issues on my installs. Pointing me to topics from archived forum from 2019 is not going to help either.

This could have some relevance and might or not be the case. As pointed out, mixing packages from AUR instead of the community ones, switching branches back and forth and switching from KDE Plasma to GIT version back ad forth, willingly or by mistake, is not constituting a bug

What I’m seeing after installing via the 20.1.1 iso (installed by resizing the Manjaro partition) and booting into it.

Oh wait, that was the old partition. When I select Manjaro Linux in the GRUB menu (and check it shows kernel 5.8.1-11 in the advanced options) it boots and displays the desktop without issues.
