I have a problem: i can’t mount any of my second drive’s NTFS partitions.
Background:
I have a dual-boot with Manjaro KDE and Windows11:
SSD:

  • Windows11 system partition NTFS
  • EFI
  • Manjaro partition ext4
  • SWAP

HDD:

  • NTFS partition with my data archive
  • NTFS partition with programs and stuff
    (Created via WIN)

The problem:
I’m unable to mount these 2 NTFS partitions on HDD either from terminal, dolphin or fstab. While windows part on ssd working correctly in dolphin.
The weirdest part is that the manjaro lsblk can’t see any partitions on hdd:

sdb 8:16 0 931,5G 0 disk
└─md127 9:127 0 0B 0 md

I need to do sudo partprobe -s every time i rebooting then lsblk see:

sdb 8:16 0 931,5G 0 disk
├─sdb1 8:17 0 100M 0 part
├─sdb2 8:18 0 128M 0 part
├─sdb3 8:19 0 558,9G 0 part
├─sdb4 8:20 0 800M 0 part
├─sdb5 8:21 0 354,9G 0 part
├─sdb6 8:22 0 16,6G 0 part
└─md127 9:127 0 0B 0 md

But i’m still unable to mount manually, via dolphin or fstab.
ntfs-3g is installed, nfsfix doesn’t help, fast start on windows is switched off and windows can’t find problem with drive. Also chkdsk /f don’t see problem with these volumes.
Can you help me please?

Hi @Arturitu12, and welcome!

Please, see How to provide good information and if applicable, [HowTo] post screenshots and links

It looks like some kind of RAID it’s detecting there, albeit incorrectly. Check your BIOS/UEFI that it’s not somehow setup to use the drives in RAID.

Hello @Arturitu12 and welcome.

Which kernel do you use and with which commands you try to mount the partitions? And are there errors displayed by mounting it manually?

Right sorry, ill add output to the orginal message

I don’t use any kind or RAID, if that matters i have a intel optane configured with that HDD, on my previous linux (ubuntu studio) all worked nicely with it. But I switched to Manjaro cause of nvidia drivers problems with ubuntu, on manjaro drivers are working well

I see 2 quick trins:

That kernel is EOL. (End Of Life) You should change to a different (Preferably LTS) one.

That should explain, at least, a bit.

I’ve heard somewhere that this can cause issues. And I don’t have it, so I don’t have more information for you, sorry.

like i said fast startup is off also ntfsfix doesn’ help

ok ill update it

I switched to 5.12.2-2 no effect on that issue

also now is:

sudo ntfsfix /dev/sdb5

but every time i reboot its back to previous error

:

pasteboard co/YFORGKYNrCHT.jpg

next error… only appears if i use ntfsfix before shutdown/reboot
(You need to add a dot after pasteboard cause i cant include links or images in posts idk why)

My mistake, i didn’t take the time to read everything.

It’s as if the drive is too slow to start up when the system boots. You might work around this by explicitly setting mount options for its partitions, and use an option that let’s it enough time to properly start (see man mount).

Alternatively, this may be a sign that your drive is starting to fail.
S.M.A.R.T. - ArchWiki.

What looks strange to me is that its look like a RAID controller is active and ‘sdb’ is attached to it. Have you done changes in your bios/uefi or connect the hdd to an other sata port?

nothing at all, like i said maybe its cause of optane. But i had prevoilsy dual-boot Ubuntu Studio and same Win11 everything was ok.

again you didn’t read, i done fstab and mountpoint and its not working aslo my fstab:

UUID=C4809BFD809BF460                     /home/arturitu12/Programy ntfs-3g auto,nofail,uid=1000,gid=1000,utf8,umask=022,defaults 0 0

Hello @Arturitu12 and welcome

What I understand here is:

  1. You have Intel RAID Controller which is running in AHCI mode:
  1. As you said, you have a an Intel Optane running, there which is by definition like a special raid1 software mode.
  1. I believe (not sure), that the MetaCache is on the optane drive and therefore it cannot be mounted.

I am not an expert of Intel Fake Raid or Optane, but could you run and post the output?

sudo mdadm --detail --scan

I believe the drive is blocked, because it is somehow linked to the Optane Drive.

Hi, here you are:

sudo mdadm --detail --scan
