if your using bumblebee you should have nouveau blacklisted, can you post:
cat /etc/modprobe.d/*
systemctl status bumblebeed

if your using video-linux (nouveau) you should uninstall bumblebee, pick one and move on to troubleshooting, theres no need to have both. iirc you can leave video-linux installed if your using nvidia bumblebee, but you cannot leave bumblebee installed while using nouveau. although i dont understand why anyone would leave more than one installed at the same time considering how easily video drivers cause issues, why have the potential conflict? i see no benefit’s to this, only potential problems.

Hi, @dglt
I just tried primusrun glxgear

the output says

primus: fatal: Bumblebee daemon reported: econdary X is not active.

and

sudo optirun glxgears -info

[ 447.476007] [ERROR]Cannot access secondary GPU, secondary X is not active.

[ 447.476025] [ERROR]Aborting because fallback start is disabled.

Also

#28

If I understood correctly, your original issue was a (kind of) known optimus-manager issue.
Now you present a bumblebee setup and issue, without info about how/if you made the change, having properly cleared old config.

What do you want to do and what do you expect (from your system and the forum)?

#29

Hi,
Sorry for not being specific about the problem.
My issue started when I noticed that system crashes on doing a

sudo systemctl poweroff

Or

sudo systemctl suspend

Then when I was asked to post the outputs of

mhwd - li

And

inxi - G

My terminal used to get stuck and I had to kill the terminals. Also noticed black screen on switching to tty.
Went through some topics on forum and tried to post the outputs thinking they might help you detect the issue.
Im on a laptop with Nvidia 1050 and intel-integrated GPU. I’m using GPU with Linux for the first time so it could be possible that I might have installed the drivers wrong way.
I’d be happy to post any other detail you could need.
Thank you.
P. S-tty isn’t opening and none of the mhwd or inxi commands are working.

#30

this sounds like behavior related to the free drivers, yet you list bumblebee info?

you can either chroot in from live usb or edit grub,
at grub move selector to manjaro, dont hit enter and instead hit E find and replace the word quiet with the number 3 then ctrl+x to boot into a non graphical environment.
login and then check out put of
mhwd -li
to see whats installed for video drivers.
then remove whatever drivers are listed like this:
sudo mhwd -r pci name-of-video-driver

now they are all uninstalled, re-install like this:
sudo mhwd -a pci nonfree 0300
reboot.

if you end up with a black screen or otherwise unbootable system, boot a manjaro live usb (install media) , connect to network and return here for further troubleshooting

#31

mhwd -li

 mhwd -li

I notice video-linux missing as compared to the last time.

after this I did

sudo mhwd -r pci video-hybrid-intel-nvidia-bumblebee

Sourcing /etc/mhwd-x86_64.conf

What should I do?

#32

before doing anything, first do this.
sudo systemctl stop optimus-manager
sudo systemctl disable optimus-manager
optimus-manager --cleanup

and then do the rest:
you still have optimus-manager installed, remove it
sudo pacman -R optimus-manager
then reinstall bumblebee for good measure and reboot
sudo mhwd -a pci nonfree 0300
yes to reinstall, no errors? reboot

in the future, never try to setup new gpu drivers when the others and configurations of others are still installed/running, you had both optimus-manager and bumblebee installed, each of them with their own services running. optimus manager didnt have the drivers needed to even use it if you wanted to. and considering they both play with bbswitch, how well do you think they would play together in the playground that is your laptop? :scream:

#33

Damn! That was a blunder from my side. Removing optimus manager and reinstalling nonfree drivers works.
Now if i try run glxgears using optirun,

optirun glxgears

[ 94.610675] [ERROR]Cannot access secondary GPU - error: [XORG] (EE) Screen 1 deleted because of no matching config section.

[ 94.610756] [ERROR]Aborting because fallback start is disabled.

How do I fix this?

Also, after reboot, everything was working fine but then suddenly the screen went off. I had to restart using power button.

did you happen to skip this part before uninstalling optimus manager? i still see
/etc/X11/mhwd.d/intel.conf which IIRC is an optimus manager config. that --cleanup before uninstall removes any remnants left behind by optimus manager. please do not skip anything.
first
systemctl status optimus-manager
this should say unit could not found, if it shows anything other, then do:
sudo systemctl stop optimus-manager
sudo systemctl disable optimus-manager
lets start with making sure whatever got left behind gets removed, re-install bumblebee. dont reboot if any of the following fails or youll be left without a graphical desktop. first make sure optimus-manager got uninstalled then:
sudo mhwd -r pci video-hybrid-intel-nvidia-bumblebee
sudo rm -rf /etc/X11/mhwd.d/intel.conf

delete the contents of /etc/modprobe.d (noticed duplicates from prev. post)
ls -la /etc/modprobe.d/
remove each like this:
sudo rm -rf /etc/modprobe.d/filename.conf
create new blacklist.conf with following contents:
sudo nano /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf

blacklist nouveau
blacklist r8169
blacklist pcspkr

save/exit.

ls -la /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/*
sudo rm -rf any gpu related configs (do not delete your keyboard/touchpad conf’s)
sudo rm -rf /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/90-mhwd.conf (and any other gpu related)

ls -la /etc/bumblebee/
sudo rm -rf anything left in this directory.

re-install bumblebee
sudo mhwd -a pci nonfree 0300

no errors? reboot.
if there are errors, do not reboot and post errors here.

It’s mhwd bumblebee config.

If optimus-manager was correctly removed per your instructions, then we should verify the modules (the rest is pretty clear, I think)

cat /etc/modprobe.d/*.conf
cat /etc/modules-load.d/*.conf

They should have what mhwd installs for bumblebee Line 132: # Set Modules.

The other factor is Grub command-line params, that could be checked by removing on grub menu while boot.

i see, i thought intel.conf was one of the files swapped back and forth with optimus manager.

missed this one, thanks.

i only figured wiping everything that is video/gpu related and start fresh with a clean bumblebee install since previously he somehow had duplicate blacklists and i also wasnt sure if OP did properly run the --cleanup before uninstalling optimus-manager. it was more of a precaution to make sure all traces of other video configs were wiped out and setup fresh with bumblebee install.
