System collapsed suddenly in newest version on stable branch

Hi guys,
I just install Manjaro Gnome from the newest release on 2024.12.16 yesterday. I choose the open source installation so there is no stuff related to nvidia so far. However, I find that my system will collapse while using radomly for no reason. To be more specific, the situation is that everything would sudddenly freeze, with cursor not able to move either from the touchpad or mouse and keyboard disabled without response, so that I have to press power button to shutdown.
Here is my computers situation:

Anyone can help me solve this problem? I used to use manjaro and I stick to it is because it is really stable. But this problem is really bothering since I don’t know whether things would be down next moment  So I really wish someone can help me with this :sob:

Without any comparable system it is impossible to suggest any meaningful response and the following is only thoughts.

The CPU is very new - likely you will have better support using linux 6.13 on unstable branch.

sudo pacman-mirrors -aS unstable
sudo pacman -Syu
mhwd-kernel -i linux613

Test by installing the laptop combo driver - I suggest using dkms and the latest nvidia 565

  • to check is whether you have any swap configured
  • to check your power settings
  • to check if any xf86- packages are installed - if any remove them

May I ask when will we have linux 6.13 on the stable branch? Maybe I can wait for a bit

I have run swapon --show in my terminal and get nothing, so I guess it indicates that there is no swap enabled.

xf86 packages information:

(base) [nuvole0217@Nuvole ~]$ pacman -Q | grep xf86
libxxf86vm 1.1.5-2
xf86-input-elographics 1.4.4-1
xf86-input-evdev 2.11.0-1
xf86-input-libinput 1.5.0-1
xf86-input-void 1.4.2-2
xf86-input-wacom 1.2.2-1
xf86-video-amdgpu 23.0.0-2
xf86-video-ati 1:22.0.0-2
xf86-video-intel 1:2.99.917+923+gb74b67f0-2
xf86-video-nouveau 1.0.18-1

and here is the power setting situation:

[nuvole0217@Nuvole ~]$ powerprofilesctl list
  performance:
    CpuDriver: amd_pstate
    PlatformDriver: platform_profile
    Degraded: no

* balanced:
    CpuDriver: amd_pstate
    PlatformDriver: platform_profile

  power-saver:
    CpuDriver: amd_pstate
    PlatformDriver: platform_profile

Besides, the reason why I choose to install at this time before waiting till next stable release is based on this, I can see that it is stable for my cpu chip, so maybe the discrepency is on my side? Not quite sure…

Is it not in the installation list?
I live in STABLE branch.

There’s 6.13.0rc5-1 on Testing.

Not sure about Gnome, but I’ve been very stable with Testing for a year now.

You can use Timeshift and get a snapshot before biting

If this is a hardware issue, you won’t get more stable than that.

NVIDIA AD107M [GeForce RTX 4060 Max-Q / Mobile] vendor: ASUSTeK
    driver: nouveau

Why not install the proprietary Nvidia driver? I’d imagine that such a new card has issues using nouveau.
At least check if there’s an option to completely disable the Nvidia card in Bios, if that solves the issue (the AMD should work) you know that you’ll need the proprietary driver.

Have you updated your system already? If not:

sudo pacman -Syu

It is advisable as mentioned by @6x12 to install the proprietary Nvidia drivers:

sudo mhwd -a pci free 0300

Afterwards, reboot.

P.S.: How long have you waited before pressing the power button?

Guys, currently my choice is switch to unstable branch, and already running

sudo pacman -Syu

to update my computer to the newest status. Lets wait and see if problems solved. I am actually careful with nvidia, overall it is closed source…

Seems this pb persists

Oh, and I forgot to mentioned that actually at first I tried boot into proprietary when I try to install via usb boot. However I booted into black screen, so I didn’t choose that way, and reckon maybe not a better choice compared to current situation.

In your case I would think about using Plasma with X11 until the issues have been solved. Gnome + Wayland + Nvidia and fresh hardware could be a challenge.

in my case i didnt use Nvidia driver so far, is it an issue now? i ll try KDE Plasma bit later today.
btw, is it a big issue to be solved? how long may i wait for such pb to be solved

Nobody can tell you.
