Switch from Nvidia gpu to Amd gpu

Huh?

You will need to be a bit more explanatory than that.

What are you trying to do?

Maybe share system info:

Still not very explanatory.

What have you done, what are you trying to do?

At least according to the inxi output you have the nvidia detected … possibly because thats the gfx profile still installed.

In any case you can try to gain ccess via TTY or runlevel3

From there I would check

mhwd -li -l

PS.
Both the kernel and the BIOS are pretty old.

Sorry, I am new to all of this. What I am trying to do is remove the Nvidia driver so I can use the new amd gpu. Right now I have the nvidia card back in so I can access my desktop.

The entire problem started when I swapped the gpu to the amd and it wouldn’t boot up to get to the desktop. I was told that deleting the Nvidia driver would be the solution to that. However, didn’t know exactly where to look, or do to actually get rid of them entirely.

Ok please start with returning the output of

mhwd -li -l

and

mhwd-kernel -li

mhwd -li -l  :heavy_check_mark:

Was this an attempt at mhwd-kernel ?
Please be careful of your spelling/input.
The code boxes here can also be easily copied.

mhwd-kernel -li

mhwd-kernel -li  127 ✘

Ok, another thing I notice is that you are in the danger zone of free space.

So please … take some time to clean as much as is comfortable to you.
The following steps will include some functions to clean, but with less than 10% free space it is important to alleviate some pressure.

Ok, we start with removing all the extra drivers (note: in future avoid vesa, and/or do not install random drivers just because they are available )

sudo mhwd -r pci video-vesa
sudo mhwd -r pci video-modesetting
sudo mhwd -r pci video-nvidia

Next we will purge the package cache to free up some space

paccache -rvk2
paccache -rvuk0

Next we will make sure your mirror is current, the system is up to date and install a modern kernel.

sudo pacman-mirrors -f && sudo pacman -Syu
sudo mhwd-kernel -i linux61 linux66

Now we will reinstall the open-source-umbrella profile

sudo mhwd -f -i pci video-linux

Now we can reboot.

If you want to remove the nvidia and/or replace with the AMD during this poweroff that should be OK.

We also want to select one of the new kernels to boot into.

If you have relatively new hardware, then it makes sense to aim for newer, but both 6.1 and 6.6 are LTS (long term support). You should be able to select one during boot (at grub, before login)
After login you can verify your kernel with

uname -a

(note: the only thing this package does is flip some switches to enable amdgpu on early GCN cards [southern islands and sea islands])

About to reboot. I’ll switch to the Amd card and see if everything works.

We may want to finalize some things afterwards.

If for whatever reason the gfx is not functional please see

To drop to TTY or boot to runlevel 3 where we can still interact with the console.

I’m back. AMD gpu is in an all is good. What is the next step?

Lets just check inxi again

inxi -Fazy

(see the kernel, driver, etc)

  • Do you see grub ?
  • Does a live manjaro work ?
  • Tip: Try to look into your UEFI.
Sometimes there is a switch to select primary graphics-card.
