Kernel affects mousepad

Hello.
Im Anthony and have been an Ubuntu / Mint user for 10 years and without so much as a single criticism of the respectable Mint, Im giving manjaro a go to see what all the hype is about. Great so far! I love everything about Linux except my issue with the Kernel.

No matter what distro, everything starts off ok until the updates to the new kernel which knocks out my mousepad buttons every time.

Does anyone know how I can upgrade the kernel without the mousepad getting hit?

Sys Info: Processor: 4 x Intel@ Core i5 2540M CPU @ 2.60 GHz.
Memory: 12G
Graphics: MESA DRI Intel@ HD Graphics 3000

            Working Kernel in use: 5.13. 19 -2 (Manjaro 64bit)
            Also installed previous LTS Kernel.

If I run the pending upgrade, I’ll be dead in the water with no functioning mouse after a few minutes of running (If at all)

I really have tried to solve this myself but to no avail. Any and all help would be appreciated.

Cheers,

Anthony Hall

Let’s start with system information first.

I looked at that but I’m sorry, it’s just too damned complicated, Exportlang thingy yields nothing in the terminal.

I put my system info in the question. If I cant get an answer because I dont understrand the advanced techno hoops you want me to jump through then so be it.

Welcome to the forum! :wave:

Your what now? mousepad is Xfce’s text editor. :wink:

It’s not supposed to, that’s fine. Keep going with the instructions and paste the output of the inxi command here.

It wont let me post the output because one cant post links. I looked through for links, couldnt find any. Copied it to a document, this thing refuses to upload that too. Basically, this support forum is preventing me from getting the info you need to you.

You should have the room to post it directly here though (as described in the tutorial).

Then upload it to an online pasting service like Pastebin, and link it here as described in the tutorial above.

Hopefully the pastebin idea has cracked it.

System: Kernel: 5.13.19-2-MANJARO x86_64 bits: 64 compiler: gcc v: 11.1.0par - Pastebin.com

Please say if it doesn’t work.

Let’s check your input devices.

Tip: When pasting terminal output on Discourse forums, one can either…

  • Use the Preformatted text </> toolbar button.

  • Add three backticks ` above and below the text (Markdown):

    ```
    type or paste code here
    ```

  • Use HTML:

    <pre><code>
    type or paste code here
    </pre></code>

I’ve done it for you this time. :wink:

I don’t see any obvious issue, though i am no touchpad expert. :frowning:

When you mentioned a pending kernel upgrade, did you mean the suggestion to install following kernels (5.14 and 5.15 currently)?
If you have trouble with new kernels, you can stay on a LTS kernel (4.10 is the current latest). Those are supported a lot longer than the other kernels.

Otherwise, you would indeed need a spare mouse to debug when your touchpad fails on the newer kernel.

Thankyou. I’ll get the hang of it!
