Xorg does not detect amdgpu on boot

I’m using cinnamon as my DE.

On boot I got lightdm start failure (Failed to start lightdm manager), but if I log in to tty and start lightdm.service manualy, it starts and detects display normaly.

All configs untouched, fresh install of Manjaro Cinnamon.

Hello @Kuzia :wink:

Maybe an UEFI / Legacy BIOS problem? Check your UEFI…

I’ve disabled all of AMD Secure features in BIOS and updated kernel to 5.9 (was 5.6), it boots 50/50 for now, but with it came backlight problems. I’ve added acpi_backlight=native to kernel params, it boots and I can control backlight levels, but current level did not stored between reboots.

I’ve had a similar problem on u2500, AMD backlight levels were between 0-65535 instead of 0-255. Is there a kernel pach or some kind of fix for this?

This seems to help: Kernel mode setting - ArchWiki

add amdgpu to init modules:
MODULES=(amdgpu)

then: (change your kernel accordingly)
sudo mkinitcpio -p linux510

and reboot
