Sudden black screen after login on Wayland, KDE6

There’s a really strange issue here… Until yesterday I could still start a Wayland session on latest Manjaro with KDE Plasma 6. Today, I log in, get the spinning wait circle for around 30 seconds, then the screen fades to black and all I get is the cursor, but it’s not smoothly moving around, more like jumping. I have to reboot then.
In journalctl there is nothing indicating an error. I am appending the log anyways.
I did run an X session before, but this is not the first time I switched between X and Wayland. It worked before all the time.
X works without issues.

Other issues that deal with a black screen after login seem different.
Where do I start? Thank you!

Try emptying ~/.cache from a tty before logging in. It is possible that there’s something corrupted in there.

No change.

Same issue here… Wayland does not work since the complete overhaul. Interestingly though it works in my vm, but nut in the bacis installation of my host system.

As I am running on a VM, I went back to a backup from 3 days earlier which still worked and continued from there. I can only assume that some way of connecting to the Manjaro VM from Proxmox caused this behaviour (especially the selected type of graphics card, like Virtio GPU or alike). I usually run the VM with GPU passthrough, so this might have caused a hickup of sorts.

you didn’t mentioned a word of this in your starting post, this is a total misleading to anyone who wants to help. sorry but this is total scrap and yes virtualization does only work properly with x11 cause a lot of vm-features aren’t adopted to wayland till now.

I’ll keep it in mind. No need to flame me like that.

Thread moved to the appropriate category.

X11 vs Wayland is the same as a native install in this case. If this is all setup properly anyway. I have many Wayland guests using VFIO.

The one thing I did, that may not be documented on the Arch wiki, and all the Reddit posts. Is I block my emulated (or 2nd) GPU while booting the Manjaro live image/installer, by editing the kernel parameters at boot through the grub menu. It’s less fiddling with mwhd and everything else after.

But there’s zero information to go by on that side of things. We don’t even know the GPU model, libvirt config, IOMMU groups, host and guest mhwd -l/-li outputs, both inxi -Gs, guest GPU hand off or blacklisting, etc.

It is more likely it’s a GPU (driver?) issue, as if this was not virtualized. But with this limited information, it’s a stab in the dark.
