Stuck at splash screen - Activation via systemd failed for unit 'dbus-org.freedesktop.home1.service'

I’ve ran into an issue where my computer is stuck on the splash screen and never loads into the greeter. I’ve discovered that lightdm fails to start but none of the solutions online have fixed it. Digging further I noticed this line appear in logs and errors and I can’t find anything about it in relation to booting:

Activation via systemd failed for unit ‘dbus-org.freedesktop.home1.service’

It’ll be some variation or another but it seems that whatever dbus-org.freedesktop.home1.service is it’s stopping me from loading into my computer.

Any help would be appreciated.

Are you - by chance - booting a system using recent systemd home service - implying a movable home?

I don’t believe I am, only changes I’ve made were updates and reinstalled a kernel that wasn’t in use.

A post was merged into an existing topic: Since installing syncthing and messing with systemd I can no longer boot past the splash screen
