Stuck at booting after nvidia 390xx driver update

I installed my nvidia graphic driver and then rebooted the system and now it is stuck at cleaning and it isn’t starting.

it says “/dev/sda1: clean, 2185217/3276800 files, 9789411/13107200 blocks”

Can someone please help me with this?

hope this helps.

It seems the nvidia legacy driver cannot detect the correct screen size:

[ 30.344] (II) NVIDIA(0): NVIDIA GPU GeForce 820M (GF117) at PCI:8:0:0 (GPU-0)
[ 30.344] (--) NVIDIA(0): Memory: 2097152 kBytes
[ 30.344] (--) NVIDIA(0): VideoBIOS: 75.17.84.00.0d
[ 30.344] (II) NVIDIA(0): Detected PCI Express Link width: 8X
[ 30.344] (II) NVIDIA(0): Validated MetaModes:
[ 30.344] (II) NVIDIA(0): "NULL"
[ 30.344] (II) NVIDIA(0): Virtual screen size determined to be 640 x 480

Beside that, officially from nvidia, the legacy driver supports only kernel 5.4 and below, but it can work with older gpus on new kernels:

Runnung an older kernel could help:

sudo mhwd-kernel --install linux54

What is in your config?

cat /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/90-mhwd.conf

update of

cat /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/90-mhwd.conf

on executing the above command i got

[manjaro@manjaro xorg.conf.d]$ cat /run/media/manjaro/0cd3ed40-73f6-4a9b-88f5-6da5ee564da2/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/90-mhwd.conf

so on listing for the file i got

[manjaro@manjaro xorg.conf.d]$ ls -la
total 16
drwxr-xrwx 2 root root 4096 Jun 28 05:13 .
drwxr-xr-x 5 root root 4096 Jun 14 15:03 ..

lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root   27 Jun 28 05:13 90-mhwd.conf -> /etc/X11/mhwd.d/nvidia.conf

so im sending the pointed file content as follows

UPDATE [SOLVED]

as per the reference NVIDIA GPU running 390xx drivers not being used in any software - #10 by omano
removing the preinstalled “broken” nvidia390xx driver and reinstalling with command
sudo mhwd -a pci nonfree 0300 had it solved
