Struggling to install and make to run vulkan for sapphire radeon r9 280

Hi everyone, i’m trying to install vulkan, that is needed to make run wine to run games, as wine keep saying gpu not compatible (which is not). I have installed radeon-vulkan and lib32-vulkan packages, plus a ton more of packages while copy pasting lines of cod (yup, very bad thing). In the end, even from official arch wiki and vulkan site information, i still cannot run wine games (precisely epic games store) neither the comman vulkaninfo is working (command not found), so i really struggle to understand what’s wrong here.

I have updated the gpu to the last version in windows, and it seems i have all the necessary packages (maybe too much of them) but still vulkan won’t go (i know it’s not a sw). I have also video-linux driver and i’m running on KDE Manjaro

Thanks for your attention

You need to install vulkan-tools, that package contains vulkaninfo. Please post the output of vulkaninfo once you’ve installed it.

Welcome to the forum!

Please see the following and post your system info as outlined here:

What packages? What “code”? Without knowing exactly what you did, it’s hard to help.

The Radeon R9 280 is a GCN 1.0 card and is only officially supported by the radeon driver which does not support Vulkan.

However, you may be able to enable experimental amdgpu support by installing the amdgpu-experimental package. If that does not work and your system fails to boot, you’ll need to switch to a TTY and remove that package.

These are all the vulkan-related packages i’ve installed

extra/spirv-tools 2020.4-1 (vulkan-devel) [installato]
extra/vulkan-icd-loader 1.2.153-2 [installato]
extra/vulkan-mesa-layers 20.1.8-1 [installato]
extra/vulkan-radeon 20.1.8-1 [installato]
extra/vulkan-tools 1.2.153-1 (vulkan-devel) [installato]
community/vkd3d 1.2-1 [installato]
multilib/lib32-amdvlk 2020.Q3.5-1 [installato]
multilib/lib32-vulkan-icd-loader 1.2.153-2 [installato]
multilib/lib32-vulkan-radeon 20.1.8-1 [installato]

These ones instead, were maybe preinstalled, or they came with one of the packages previously mentioned

multilib/lib32-vulkan-intel 20.1.8-1 [installato]
extra/vulkan-intel 20.1.8-1 [installato]

This is the output of inxi -Fxi

After installing amdgpu-experimental, i’ve successfully managed to launch epic games store with no errors reported by wine about unsupported gpu, thank you all so much.

Now vulkaninfo works, and inxi -Fxi is written that i’m using the amdgpu driver instead of the previous radeon

Also, it seems that viewing mkv files with VLC is WAY better than before, where the image was pixelated and the framerate was not constant
