I may have mentioned this in a previous post but never got a resolution to it.
On my Manjaro Unstable I have this issue that after I start Manjaro from a Cold startup and xcreensaver kicks in I go to move the mouse and I cannot get the screensaver to stop running.
However if I close the lid and reopen it I regain control of the laptop. After that if the screensaver starts I have no problem with it. I can move the mouse and the screensaver disappears .
It’s ok if I don’t get this resolved , I have been living with this for a while now.
Are you still using Xorg, or have you switched to Wayland?
Xscreensaver doesn’t play well with Wayland, so is essentially useless. From comments its developer has made, I very much doubt it’ll ever be ported to Wayland unless someone forks it.
You don’t need xscreensaver with Plasma Wayland. The lock screen can be used as a screensaver.
First, open System Settings → Screen Locking. Set the amount of time before the screen will lock (i.e. display the screensaver), and whether your password is required for unlocking. You can also set a delay where the password is not required for a specific time after locking.
Then, click on the Configure Appearance button at top right of the lock screen settings & select what you want to display while the screen is locked.
Note also that the lock screen uses the same plugins as your desktop wallpapers. To add more plugins you can right click on your desktop, select Desktop and Wallpaper, and then click the Get New Plugins button.
Plasma will be Wayland-only from 2027, so if you don’t want to use Wayland, you may need to start looking at other X11 desktop environments, or maybe switching to a distro which will continue to provide X11 for Plasma.
The Plasma X11 session will be supported by KDE into early 2027.
We cannot provide a specific date, as we’re exploring the possibility of shipping some extra bug-fix releases for Plasma 6.7. The exact timing of the last one will only be known when we get closer to its actual release, which we expect will be sometime in early 2027.
What if I still really need X11?
This is a perfect use case for long term support (LTS) distributions shipping older versions of Plasma. For example, AlmaLinux 9 includes the Plasma X11 session and will be supported until sometime in 2032.
I have just closed 50+ of your previous topics left open and abandoned (as far back as 2022) – xscreensaver wasn’t mentioned in the title of any of them with respect this issue.
In future, please make sure to finalise any topic you create before swanning away merrily without a care in the world. You should mark a solution post in every topic you create.
If no solution is possible, it’s suggested to summarise the topic as best you can, or at least add a post to indicate that you’re no longer interested in finding a solution.
Basically, we need to know your intentions with any topic – they can’t be left open indefinitely – there were also many that had responses that you never replied to, and subsequently didn’t return to.
We class those as “abandoned”, but it helps if the OP comments from time to time to let others know they are still interested in a solution, if at all possible. It’s only fair.
