USB flash drives or allegedly any USB devices do not work. But lsusb sees them

What logfiles should I provide to diagnose and fix this issue?

sudo dmesg should show if it see’s you usb drives.

If lsusb sees them - they are obviously available.

Please do provide some context - while we would love the Discourse mind reader plugin - :brain: - it has some serious flaws.

Manjaro usually reads whatever device you plug - so the immediate questions are:

  • What changes you have made to the default Manjaro system?
  • Which packages have you removed?
  • Is the user default installed user with admin rights or a secondary user with no admin rights?

I did not make any fundamental changes to my Manjaro. The user is the one created during installation.

Oh, suddenly my USB scanner seems to work. But not USB drive, it is seen via lsusb but not in gparted.

I know there is/has been issues with xhci firmware (USB 3 controller) - something with the Renesas vendor and a foggy licensing

OK, how do I fix that?

That depends on your system.

One solution is to install a LTS kernel - then use shift or esc at restart to show the grub menu - then select advanced options and select the LTS kernel (grub is configured to remember last choice).

If you are using e.g. 5.8 - another solution is to up your kernel to 5.9 - but that may require you to switch branch to at least testing.

What you choose - is up to you.

Can anyone please post detailed list of commands to type in console to either diagnose the problem or to fix that?
