Steam games won't launch.

Hello, I'm fairly new to linux and very new to arch/manjaro. Just recently switched my home pc over from Ubuntu to Manjaro. I just installed some steam games and trying to run them. I have Dirt Rally, Nite Team 4, KOTOR2, and CS:GO installed. Of those only Dirt Rally will launch and play but I think that may be because it starts a launcher first and then plays the game. When I try to start Underlords I get the print out:

./underlords.sh

And then a box pops up that says

Unable to load 'libpangoft2-1.0.so', your game install may be corrupted or you may have a system conflict.

When I try to launch KOTOR2 I get the following printout:

./KOTOR2
./KOTOR2: error while loading shared libraries: libopenal.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

And when I launch NT4 it actually launches the game but just spins on the opening screen.

After some searching on this forum as well as Google I see that some people needed to install packages like libxxf86vm1:i386 libglu1-mesa:i386 libopenal1:i386 libssl1.0.0:i386. But I guess with arch it is multilib? Which pacman says is up to date. Let me know if there is any more information I can give you so you can help me solve this problem. Thank you all for your help.

can you try the steam native package from the repos? If it is a library error then it should work with the native version, i guess.

Thanks for the reply! I installed steam from the pacman app manager if that is what you mean.

That is not what I meant. Sorry for the ambiguity.
There should be another package in pamac as "steam-native". Try installing and running that. I think you can run it from the terminal as "steam-native".

in the games properties, verify the files. if it's corrupt it should show it and download the parts that need replacing.

did you carry this library over from ubuntu or did you do a clean install of them from manjaro?

I have all installed them fresh on Manjaro. They were on a second HDD that was ntfs so I decided that when I switched distros it would be a good time to also reformat my secondary HD to ext4.

you have the open source nouveau driver being used instead of the proprietary driver. post these outputs

mhwd;mhwd -li
xrandr --prop

if you dont have anything connected to the video outputs on the motherboard, disable the intel graphics from bios and install the proprietary drivers

sudo mhwd -r pci video-linux
sudo mhwd -i pci video-nvidia-440xx

I have my secondary monitor plugged into mother board because my GPU IO just has a DVI and then 4 Display Ports. My secondary monitor only has a DVI and VGA.

Here is the output of both of those commands.

`$ mhwd;mhwd -li

According to the Arch wiki:

The steam package offers three ways to launch Steam:

So are steam-native and steam in the pacman application manager not the same thing?
So just run in console:

pacman -S steam-native

Will it overwrite my current Steam install? Or should I uninstall it first?

ok, i just wanted to make sure manjaro didnt see your gpu setup as an optimus laptop which can happen sometimes on desktops using an iGPU and a dGPU at the same time.

run this and reboot.

sudo mhwd -i pci video-nvidia-440xx

after a reboot your inxi info should show the nvidia driver and not the nouveau one. then try loading a game

yes it is different from the pre-installed one. I don't think it replaces it. But you could always try it out, right? if it replaces, you can always uninstall native and go back to the default one. Just try the native once.... it solved a similar problem of mine when I was trying to run insurgency.

Good news I was able to successfully start Underlords now! Bad news is my second monitor isn't coming up now lol. It isn't showing up in Display Settings either.

you changed to the nvidia driver?

if yes, post updated info with everything plugged in

inxi -Fxxxza --no-host
xrandr --prop
hwinfo --monitor --display

and please use preformatted text when posting terminal outputs, the </> button above the post entry or 3 backtics ``` above and below output does the same thing.

Sorry, I thought I did that. Here is that info. I wasn't sure how to check the inxi info to see if it was switched over to nvidia or not. I assumed so since I'm only able to see the monitor that is plugged into the GPU.

$ inxi -Fxxxza --no-host

are those outputs from both monitors being plugged in and turned on? (not sleeping).

if yes, you can try this but if it doesnt detect the monitor you'll need a xorg configuration with device (gpu) and monitor sections that specify which display is on which device. or if you want them both running on the nvidia just grab an adapter for DP > VGA or whichever one you need.

sudo nano /etc/mkinitcpio
edit line to match, put intel first in front of any others that may be there.

MODULES="intel_agp"

save/exit
sudo mkinitcpio -P
reboot
