Steam Controller 2026 stopped forwarding controls to the KDE Gamecontroller tool in Manjaro

Hi,
I’ve got the steam controller and it worked fine, however after some OS and Firmware update it stopped working in any game.
I have found out that it was still recognised fine in the KDE Gamecontroller UI, however the controls are not responding there.
However the Mousemode is still working and inside steam UI Controller Checks all controls are working well too.

I plugged it into a freshly installed and updates Manjaro computer, and there was the exact same issue.

After that I plugged it into a Fedora 44 PC with the latest update and there it worked in KDE too.

How can I debug that in Manjaro properly to get it working again?

Just a suggestion, but have you tried a different Kernel (e.g. 6.18 LTS)? Although your machine appears to be very recent, the latest LTS may still work OK until the issue gets fixed in the newer ones.

I also see you have no swap defined, but that’s likely unrelated to this issue.

Sometimes after updating the udev rules can get messed up. The ArchWiki has a solution for this.

If that doesn’t work, is the firmware of your controller the newest version?

Hi, yes on the second host I am using the latest cachyos 7.x Kernel and on the Fedora Host where it’s working, there is a 7.x Kernel too. @Ronster Yes that is constantly being updated, I have the suspicion that either a Firmwareupdate or a update in Manjaro is the culprit. About the udev rules, I need to look at it, I have added the mentioned udev rule and it did not change.

So the controller still appears in the gamecontroller setting, however no inputs are recognized.

Another thing: if I connect a Xbox Series X Controller to the conputer that works fine.

If the following quote suggests you are using Manjaro with a foreign kernel, then I’m afraid you are technically in an unsupported state, with respect Manjaro Support.

No, on my main PC, I am using the normal Manjaro Kernel.
I am havin 3 PCs.

  1. Main Manjaro PC with regular Manjaro Kernel and normal stuff. => Steam Controller NOT working in KDE, Xbox Controller working
  2. NUC PC with eGPU Manjaro with CachyOS Kernel. => Steam Controller NOT working in KDE, Xbox Controller working
  3. Fedora Laptop => Steam Controller working in KDE, Xbox Controller working

Switching to the latest 7.1 Kernel fixed it in my case. I still have the new udev rules with the permission 666 in place.
