Jumpy mouse scroll in XFCE

Hello i have a issue with scrolling when i scroll down is sometimes scrolls up and down and its a reall mess its making scrolling pages and playing games impossible for me cant attacha video (whyy) It happens on any DE and ive tried evdev drivers and libinput drivers no luck tried posing on r/manjaro linux no answers i hope someone answers me here

Hello, please read here:
https://forum.manjaro.org/t/how-to-provide-good-information/

I think you’ll get more responses if you provide more detail.

Which apps does it occur. Just the browser or others?
Does this fault occur when your system is loaded or at all times. By loaded, I mean running the browser with 100 tabs or playing 4K video.
When did it first appear? Immediately after installation or after a system update? What other events/changes happened between installation and the first occurrence of the fault.
Have you checked the logs at the time it occurs?

I think it’s to do with new user restrictions;
you must prove yourself a genuine user and not a spambot. :slightly_smiling_face:

Next time, refer the user posing a question like this here:

Please? Pretty please with :rainbow: :rainbow: :rainbow: and :unicorn: :unicorn: :unicorn:

It occurs everywhere and at all times strange how i didnt notice when it appeared but it was around a month ago it happens only on manjaro havent checked logs i dunno how but im pretty sure theres something wrong with a driver Imgur: The magic of the Internet

  1. IMGUR doesn’t always work:

Therefore, better use the methodology in the [HowTo] described above

  2. An inxi --admin --verbosity=7 --filter --no-host --width would be the minimum required information… (Personally Identifiable Information like serial numbers and MAC addresses will be filtered out by the above command)

Heres more info any ways on how to attach the video lmk

That kernel is EOL. Upgrade to 5.4 LTS or 5.10 (which is an LTS candidate)

Could you also elaborate on how you scroll?

  • Keyboard
  • Mouse wheel
  • TrackPoint / TrackPad

Are the symptoms similar with all of the above?

i use mouse wheel only but scrolling with the arrows is fine will try upgrating to a lts kernel
EDIT: updating the kerned did nothing  anything to provide?

Does this also happen in a newly created user (E.G. rippanda13)

Yes it does I dont know whats causing it i tried different kernels DE’s compositors nothing still that wierd and jumpy scroll making it impossible to play games

and I’m on KDE, so I can’t help you any further. I did edit your post and added a few tags to attract people better suited to help you.

I tried installing a different distro same issue theres no info on the net Kubuntu is what i tried same issue

In that case: Have you tried a different mouse??? (Sorry for not asking that first)

:man_shrugging:

Yep ive tried different mice same also i hope this works to better show the issue ive shot it in gnome but its the same for XFCE KDE GNOME OPENBOX CINNAMON https://youtu.be/zrJ2_YPV3x4
The video contains me scrolling ONLY down

No further clue then. Let’s wait for an XFCE expert…

Solved Turns out my mouse was nasty on the inside and the scroll was doing something i dont know but i cleaned it and it works fine but im confused why it didnt do it in windows

I’m confused: so you’ve changed/cleaned your mouse?

cleaned it stopped doing the jumpy scroll and now its starting to do it again
i dunno whats happening

Have you tried a different brand of mouse when you used another one?

(this really smells like a hardware problem)

P.S. Removed the Solution otherwise you will definitely not attract smarter people than me!
