[Stable Update] 2026-05-02 - Kernels, Plasma, GNOME, Mesa, Systemd, VirtualBox, LibreOffice

I’m personally not using kernel 7.0 – am remaining on the 6.18 (LTS) – and have not experienced any issues.

You may indeed not have seen reports regarding other kernels, however, all things being equal, @Teo has – let’s not dismiss his findings so readily.

That said, and in fairness, it’s also possible that some reports may have simply been related to ntfs3 doing it’s job: reporting damage on an ntfs filesystem – in which case, the volume is prevented from mounting (a feature of ntfs3). Otherwise, it’s good to see some work being done on the module.

cpptrace went from aur to extra official repository, but still in testing, so quickshell crash due to a discrepancy between the qt version and quickshell build version, but quickshell is unable to be updated because cpptrace cannot be found on aur nor extra, on stable branch

I’ve built a temporary cpptrace 1.0.4-1.0 overlay package for the Manjaro Stable branch. Coming soon to a mirror near you.

Note that I moved your reply to the proper Announcement topic.

Plasma Login Manager (PLM) will be the successor of SDDM for distributions using KDE Plasma.

However, some are clinging to SDDM due to it’s support of X11 features, which PLM does not fully provide. In recent months, there have also been some subtle changes in how SDDM is handled.

The following might be of interest for those who will eventually transition to PLM, but wish to hold on to SDDM as long as is practically possible:

Since this latest update, I am getting a hang on Restart with the error:

dbus-broker-launch[629]: Activation request for ‘org.freedesktop.nm_dispatcher’ failed.

Requires the use of REISUB to shutdown and restart. Any hints where to look for more info to troubleshoot?

Are you sure that PLM not support X11? As far i remember, i think i saw already a few X11 user’s switching to PLM in the past and nobody complain about problems related to X11.

At the moment it will still support X11, but as Plasma 6.8 will be dropping all support for X11 and plasma-login-manager is a KDE-developed project intended to specifically work with Plasma — as opposed to sddm, which is not a KDE project and is intended to also support other desktop environments and window managers — the expectation is that X11 support will be dropped from plasma-login-manager at the same time as when it’ll be dropped from Plasma itself.

That’s my point, so PLM supports X11… that Plasma 6.8 dropped support is a completely different story.

Yeah a expectation.

For now, yes.
