[Stable Update] 2026-05-02 - Kernels, Plasma, GNOME, Mesa, Systemd, VirtualBox, LibreOffice

When I tried removing alien packages with Pamac to prep for the update, it kept refusing due to two dependencies that would supposedly break: libakonadi and libkcompactdisc. I did some research and I don’t know what installed them, but they’re both related to KDE applications and libraries.

As per a suggestion with a similar issue, I replaced the libakonadi with the one from the extra repo (it upgraded to akonadi-26.04.0-1) but I can’t seem to find a replacement for libkcompactdisc in the repo.

They’re the only two foreign packages that I don’t recognize and weren’t there last time there was a big update. Should I remove that last one? The only thing I can figure it possibly being a dependency for is K3b, which I use to rip my CDs to digital, and I use that on the regular. Other than that, I’m not sure what it could be for, but I can’t say for certain that’s what it’s for.

I’m just not sure exactly what I should do before I remove foreign packages. I try to follow the best practices every time there’s a major update.
