[Stable Update] 2025-03-24 - NVIDIA, PipeWire, Mesa, Firefox, Thunderbird, KDE Frameworks

After the update, the standby no longer works correctly. Once the PC enters sleep mode (correctly), upon recovery, it freezes, showing the graphic screen and then restarting (Nvidia/KDE).

system hung at manjaro splash screen after update and reboot - recovered using Timeshift via TTY

I too have this problem.
One of my monitor does not recognize the signal anymore.
I have tried to change some parameter in the display configuration and setting the refresh rate to 60 Hz makes the monitor work again.
Normally I have 144 Hz on that monitor. I also tried 120 Hz but still no signal.

On first reboot I got stuck on an endless splash screen too. The “nvidia_drm.modeset=1” was already remove some months ago.

After booting once using the fallback initramfs, the issue did not occur again while testing some hot and cold reboots. So far I did not find any suspicious log entries.

Sadly, the new NVidia drivers caused a huge drop in overall performance in several games (no matter if using Wine, older or new Proton versions etc.) and heavy V-Sync issues.

+1 to this. RTX 3080 LHR. High refresh rate monitors connected via DP are fine, but my third monitor connected via HDMI does not function at its native 100Hz refresh rate, only at 60. When configured to 100Hz, the two DP displays black out every few seconds as if the HDMI display was being repeatedly connected and disconnected.

(I also did not see an nvidia_drm.modeset=1 flag to remove in the boot grub editor.)

See post below. Valve still haven’t pushed the fix to Steam stable client but it is fixed in the Beta client (Settings->Interface->Client Beta Participation). It doesn’t actually cause any problems so up to you if you want to switch to Beta.

AudioTube from extra does not longer plays music.
This is not related to the pipewire / pulseaudio problem mentioned above.
Could resolve it by deinstalling AudioTube and reinstalling the Flatpak version.

There seems to be a huge problem with this update. My system also hang at an endless splash screen. I have to roll back via btrfs timeshift to the backup yesterday. I enter this forum only to realize that I’m not the only one.

My system has NVIDIA GPU RTX 4090 + Intel CPU 13900k. My desktop manager is KDE Plasma. I am using X11.

Same problem, hangs at the 3 dots. Nvidia GTX 1060. Old graphics card, so I guess bleeding edge isn’t the way to go. I used Timeshift to roll back which was very easy.

I’m experiencing the same issue after updating.

Same here with a Xiaomi bluetooth mouse. Bluetooth keyboard working as usual.
Also pipewire using 100 per cent of one of the 8 cpu (threads)

Needed to apply a solution already posted consisting in to disable midi.
Created a nomid.config in /usr/share/wireplumber/wireplumber.conf.d/

Rebooted
It got stuck on the initial loading screen with the dots flowing endlessly. (waited 10 minutes) CTRL+ALT+DEL rebooted it again and it got to the same screen but dots never appeared or moved.
Hard shutdown with my power button. Upon turning back on it loaded up no problem! Logged into X11 as I normally do because Wayland has always been broken with my config. Looked fine.
Decided to log out and try Wayland. It worked! I had to rearrange my monitors, but that was easy. I also have a bunch of apps not using my color settings, but I can fix that easily as well.
My only noticeable issue is that KRunner is broken, getting a QTthreadStorage error. Looking into it I found that this is a bug in Qt 6.8.2 which is what is being used. It’s going to be fixed in 6.8.3, but it was advised by KDE that distros backport the fix to their 6.8.2 package. Update:
Additional issue for Wayland, this isn’t Manjaro specific. My 144hz Freesync monitor is softly flickering with Adaptive Sync enabled. Always flickering if AS is set to Always, and only in fullscreen when set to Automatic.
Update 2:
Another Wayland/Nvidia thing, likely not Manjaro specific. Overnight my 4th screen froze. The entire screen. Everything on that screen was still functional, but what was displayed was stuck at like 4:12AM. Adjusting monitor settings didn’t do anything. I logged out and that fixed it.
Between the last two issues in my updates and also a VMWare Horizon specific issue not capturing keyboard shortcuts that also are used on the host system, I’ve got to go back to X11 for now.

Intel and Nvidia:

First reboot after updating from TTY hard froze on the log in screen (Gnome GDM), Mouse frozen and no keyboard keys would work, so not able to CTRL + ALT + F3/F4 etc, so the extremely rare uses of the Reset button was required.

Booted up fine after this, but was having some problems with Apps/Programs not opening, weird app screen issues like moving the mouse would cause the app window to go all white (not all apps and mostly Flatpaks), mouse pointer freezing when using some apps for a second or 2, and other problems like longer loading times from restart/power on, When booting it would boot normal (640x480) then half way it will now blank out and reappear at 1920x1080 then continue loading to log in screen, Before it would stay at 640x480 while booting until log in screen and much quicker.

Fixed most of the problems with Apps/Programs/Mouse Freeze by going back to Gnome on Xorg.
Still have the weird boot issue.

Smooth update on both devices (Notebook and Desktop PC). Thank you all for your hard work! :heart:

If this will happen again (let’s hope not!) would be better to do a REISUB: [HowTo] reboot / turn off your frozen computer: REISUB/REISUO

System freezes after suspend. even if the login screen appears, I cannot log in because the account is locked/password incorrect.

logs show that automatic login attempts occur and faillock locks the account.

after reboot or restart lightdm i can login again.

even if I disable the locking of the computer after entering sleep, it does not help because I have a black screen with a cursor only after waking up but after some time the desktop appears, and system are laggy for few minutes…

After far too long, I would like to thank the entire Manjaro team for their great work. This update is running flawlessly, just like all the others before it.

Manjaro runs on three of my devices:

  • Desktop PC (about 9 years old) with XFCE 4.20; Manjaro has been running here for 8-9 years. XFCE - rock solid!
  • ThinkPad T15 with Plasma 6.3.3: the greatest desktop!
  • Lenovo laptop with Sway: I love it!

Manjaro has been running flawlessly on every device since the initial installation. On the ThinkPad T15, I couldn’t get the internal microphone to work for a while, but through persistent searching and trial and error, I was able to solve this problem as well.

So: thank you very much for your tireless efforts. Manjaro - what a great distribution.
