[Stable Update] 2024-01-13 - Kernels, Systemd, Qt5, Mesa, Dbus, Firefox, Thunderbird

Strange, so you normally never see this SDDM Login Menue but it shows up right after the Update?

If you are using a special theme style for SDDM, maybe change it to a default theme.

The correct procedure to uninstall Plymouth can be found in the Manjaro Wiki Plymouth article, under the heading of REMOVAL.

It’s more involved than typical package removal, but not difficult.

Update on my situation: Running sudo update-grub fixed the missing Grub theme. So if anyone else got this one try simply running that and it should do it.

systemd-homed comes preinstalled in Arch and derivatives, but its configuration is essentially blank, apart from listing its “factory defaults”, and it is not enabled.

The reason for this is that most people don’t have a need for systemd-homed. For one, it breaks too many things — such as remote login over ssh — because it uses dynamic user IDs that are created on the fly. It is specifically intended for people who keep their entire /home on a removable storage device, and who carry this storage device around with them for use across multiple different computers, such as in an office setting where people have to use different desktop computers depending on what cubicle will be available to them, or people who wish to take their entire $HOME with them after office hours to continue working at home, but who are not using a laptop.

Personally, I have it masked.

Had to boot machine twice before getting the login prompt.

Hope can boot the next time.

I have been seeing the issue described in After 2023-12-01 I can not get in to a timed out session - the issue persists in the latest update. I have resolved it by manually installing version 535.146.02 of the Nvidia drivers (using the .run file they provide on their website).

My boot partition is only 200MB big, im actually only use Kernel 6.1LTS and i use 120MB from 190MB (real space)…

Will i run into issue, when i enlarge my Boot Partition while in a life boot environment? Im using MBR btw.

Hello there, I ran into the same issue after the update with Plasma X11. But I managed to drill down and fix the issue. You might possibly be facing the same case. I mentioned it here:

I updated with Pamac. It showed a popup asking to to choose (I guess dbus-broker), but there is nothing for me really to choose, I just had to press the “Choose” button, then it prompted me about three new packages to be installed. The upgrade went smoothly, and the reboot had no problem.

After reboot, I see my kernel is still 6.1.71. 6.6.10 is recommended but it’s not upgraded automatically? Should I upgrade to that manually?

LUKS user here. I haven’t installed 6.7 yet, but I have experienced the problem of a limited /boot size on Ubuntu, which has been creating massive initramfs’s for years now, and every solution is painful.
However, my Manjaro install doesn’t seem to be vulnerable. Look at the output of ‘df -h’, it appears that on my system /boot/efi only points to the partition with the limited size, /boot is just on the main [encrpyted] disk. As the initramfs’s are stord in /boot there should not be a problem.
This is probably something to do with why I have 2 key slots used, one for me, and one for a keyfile /crypto_keyfile.bin autogenerated by the installer.

Xfce. This update has gone very bad, for me:

@philm

@philm, does this update change anything about gpu hardware acceleration? I told you this because after the update, Brave browser and Chromium show strange artifacts on screen while browsing as I shown before in this thread:

Even appear weird images as seen here:

2cr

Disabling hardware acceleration in browser (Settings → Systems → Disable hardware acceleration when available) the problems disappear.

And Videolan VLC before the update played AVI (xvid codec) or MKV (264 or 265 codec) files without problem. Hardware acceleration was set in “Auto”. After the update plays MKV files but not AVI, there’s sound but only a black screen.

Disabling hardware acceleration in Tools → Preferences → Input & Codecs → Codecs → Hardware-accelerated decoding plays AVI files again.

And seems I’m not the only one with this issue:

All this happen after the update. Brave, Chromium or VLC weren’t updated, so must be caused by another package. If I restore the timeshift snapshot made before the update, browsers work without problems and VLC plays all files as usual.

@Arrababiski seems mesa is not your friend. What GPU you’re using?

I restored again the timeshift snapshot made before the update and worked fine again. Repeated the update choosing dbus-daemon instead of dbus-broker (only for testing) but the artifacts reappear.

Copying data from USB stick via dolphin to the system is also very slow …
I guess there is a problem with the new kernel, I’ll test the LTS straight away also because of the shutdown issue.

edit

Yes, the issue with copying from usb stick is caused by the new kernel, the problem does not occur with 6.6.10.
The shutdown problem is probably caused by a systemd thing …

Worked for me as well. On my side dual-boot was broken as well, but sudo grub-mkconfig fixed that too.

You’re right. I restored again the timeshift snapshot from before the update, repeat all the update except these ten packages and after the reboot had no problem, no artifacts, VLC plays AVI again.

You could do that. See Manjaro Kernels.

Or, if kernel 6.6.10 was actually installed, you might just need to select it from the Grub boot menu.

There is weird issue when saving files from web browsers (firefox, chrome) on smb share… files are corrupted or fail when saving. I don’t see such issues outside web browsers for now. Also there are no problems with nfs shares or local disks.

Hi,

After the update, the reboot was ok. Just a little issue: after few second any icons disappeared in the desktop. The background image is like before the update, at the moment any programs works well…but no icon (trash bin, shortcut to programs, files) are presents. My desktop is completely empty.
Below some details, that I hope could help you to help me.
Thank’s in advance.

░░ A service file is a ini-type configuration file.
░░
░░ It has one required section
░░ named [D-BUS Service]. The section contains the required key 'Name', which
░░ must be a valid D-Bus name that is unique across all service files. It also
░░ contains at least one of the two optional keys 'SystemdService' and 'Exec',
░░ as well as optionally the key 'User'. Exec must be a valid shell command and
░░ User must be a valid user on the system.
░░
░░ A service file should be named after the D-Bus name it configures. That is
░░ a file containing Name=org.foo.bar1 should be named org.foo.bar1.service.
░░ For backwards compatibility, we only warn when files do not follow this
░░ convention when run as a user bus. The system bus considers this an error
░░ and ignores the service file.
