[Stable Update] 2023-10-13 - Pipewire, Mattermost, Qt5, Haskell, Python

7 posts were split to a new topic: Some folders in a NTFS partition are read-only

As far as I can tell, this has been resolved. libdav1d was downgraded momentarily in the repo to fix some (apparent) KDE incompatibilities, and then quickly upgraded again when that downgrade started throwing this error for lots of people. If your mirrors are up to date as of today, the necessary version of libdav1d should install without any problems.

I am in the process of updating now, so if I’m wrong, I’ll know pretty soon.

This thread fairly clearly lays out what happened, if you need to know all the gritty details:

After this upgrade, I have no sound coming out of my system anymore.
Gnome settings shows me there are no audio input or output devices :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

I am using Pipewire (and the combine-sink module, if that’s important).
I already tried re-installing FFmpeg but it didn’t change anything.

Here are some logs from the journal that might be helpful?

12:59:30 systemd: Started PipeWire PulseAudio.

Edit: After a few reboots I can play audio again. I don’t know where this failure came from and will report if it appears again.
But for now, it seems to be fine.

I’ve had similar experiences every now and then; no sound after installing updates and rebooting. (Haven’t checked any logs though.) One more reboot fixes it. I don’t have a clue why it happens or why another reboot fixes it. I guess something changes in software side but hardware is not properly re-initialized with warm reboot.

Using 11th gen Intel in a laptop here, audio is Intel Corporation Tiger Lake-LP Smart Sound Technology Audio Controller (rev 20) but there’s zero audio devices then, so I guess Pipewire dies hard…

Yes i think that’s a similar problem to the one that I have.
My sound chip is Multimedia audio controller: Intel Corporation Ice Lake-LP Smart Sound Technology Audio Controller (rev 30).

2 posts were split to a new topic: I encounter a very slow startup time

Please see my post above, I’ve had the same problem with combine sink.
You can fix it by installing pipewire alsa, pulse and audio packages version other than 0.3.80 (either older ones, or newer ones like 0.3.81 from testing/unstable repo)

combine sink, both pulseaudio and native one, seems to be broken with 0.3.80

Couldn’t mount external NTFS disk after the update. This helped solve it:

Okay thanks for the confirmation.
I will just wait until this newer packages arrive at the stable repos.

Edit: BTW, I found the reason for this issue : Regex with Combine Stream module not working in version 0.3.80 (possible regression) (#3528) · Issues · PipeWire / pipewire · GitLab
Indeed, it is fixed in 0.3.81

Somehow dav1d only provides /usr/lib/libdav1d.so.7, but my systems needs /usr/lib/libdav1d.so.6 aswell.

dav1d.provides:
...
/usr/lib/libdav1d.so
/usr/lib/libdav1d.so.7
/usr/lib/libdav1d.so.7.0.0
...
> electron25
/usr/lib/electron25/electron: error while loading shared libraries: libdav1d.so.6: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
> ldd /usr/lib64/electron25/electron | grep libdav1d
	libdav1d.so.7 => /usr/lib/libdav1d.so.7 (0x00007fdaa1c24000)
	libdav1d.so.6 => not found
> sudo pacman -Syyuu
:: Starting full system upgrade...
 there is nothing to do

This breaks electron25 and python-pyqt6-webengine for me
Anyway to fix this?

I get a different result.

$ pacman -Q dav1d electron25
dav1d 1.3.0-1
electron25 25.9.0-2
$ ldd /usr/lib64/electron25/electron | grep libdav1d
libdav1d.so.7 => /usr/lib/libdav1d.so.7 (0x00007f9d8fc24000)

Are your versions of dav1d and electron25 the same as mine?

Yes, they are the same. Thank you nonetheless.
There are a lot of applications that are currently working perfectly fine. But I feel like there are more issues on my machine, then expected: Here is another application:

> telegram-desktop
telegram-desktop: error while loading shared libraries: libglslang.so.12: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Forum was down yesterday,
when I updated OnlyOffice from the repos.
It told me it was having different file permissions (755) compared to the actual folder (775).
While installation was running.
I am going it ignore that, or shouldn’t I, since OnlyOffice seems to run fine after the update?

Oh yeah and the update came after this system update so I could open a new thread if this is needed. Opinions or knowledgeable advice on these file permissions “issue” are welcome!

I just resolve the same error. In my situation, I have ffmpeg-full from AUR installed which depends on glslang. So I just rebuild ffmpeg-full and then excecute telegram-desktop again, and everything works fine.
I think the error is caused by the dependency of telegram-desktop to ffmpeg, which has dependency to glslang, and when you have a package(for me, it’s ffmpeg-full) linking directly to a lib like libglslang.so.12, it will be broken when the glslang version is upgraded to 13.
Hope this will help you.
BTW, I addressed this cause under the help from Arch Linux CN Telegram group, great thanks to these guys!

The permissions should be 755. :wink:

You can, but it’s advised to follow the recommendation. It’s not uncommon for permissions to change but may require manual intervention for that to happen because the folder exists already. No idea why it can’t be automated alongside the upgrade, in theory it should be possible but I guess warning will allow users that do intentional change to keep the change as is (yes, there are such users who know what they’re doing and are aware of any possible risks) while other users can simply follow the suggestions.

I believe that the filesystem package does this. But this package is not included with every major update. :wink:

[ALPM] warning: directory permissions differ on /opt/onlyoffice/
filesystem: 775  package: 755

So
sudo chmod 755 /opt/onlyoffice/

I guess I’m leaving this here, for others.

filesystem update would fix that maybe with the next upgrade for other others…

Dankjewel!

Do you have the kvantum-theme-matchama theme installed?

No, I don’t, so I don’t think this is the problem.

That being the case, then you’re correct, it’s not.
