The KDE Community Wiki recommends that xsettingsd be pre-installed: https://community.kde.org/Distributions/Packaging_Recommendations#3rd-party_packages IMHO, xsettingsd should remain an optional dependency of kde-gtk-config - not so that it can be installed, but so that it can be uninstalled. But Manjaro Plasma can and should have it installed by default.

Install xsettingsd and check scaling after that. While my “debate” was against being installed by default, i’m not against installing it on those machines that require it.
