[Stable Update] 2022-01-02 - Kernels, Systemd, KDE Frameworks, Mesa, Xorg-Server, Wine, Python 3.10

Hello,
From my side, I can not update:

:: Proceed with installation? [Y/n] y
:: Retrieving packages...
(388/388) checking keys in keyring [######################] 100%
(388/388) checking package integrity [######################] 100%
error: failed to commit transaction (invalid or corrupted package)
Errors occurred, no packages were upgraded.

Finally it worked with the graphical install…
Weird.

Why was font-manager removed from community?

font-manager 0.8.7-1 -

Arch still shows it in community repo - font-manager.

It appears in Unstable, not Testing or Stable. Does that mean it is coming back?

The story of font-manager is as follows:

It was originally in the AUR, then a previous Manjaro team member imported it to our community repo, I dropped it in a cleanup, then it was just recently imported from the AUR to the Arch community repo and therefore it’s back in our community repo. Got it? :stuck_out_tongue:

In the above list, what is the difference between “overlay” and “sync”:

  1. “Different overlay package(s) in repository community x86_64”
  2. “Different sync package(s) in repository community x86_64”

Overlays are (sometimes only temporary) packages that are in the Arch repos we have a custom version of. Sync packages are directly synced from Arch.

After the update, KWin crashes when using alt-tab task switcher with default settings. Seems to have something to do with thumbnails - it works fine when the compositing is disabled or with a different theme that doesn’t use thumbnails. Changing thumbnail settings in the compositing section doesn’t help though.

I’ve got a big update needing to happen. I ran pacman -Syu and got about 3.3G worth of updates. After rebooting Manjaro bootloops after GRUB. It shows terminal cursor for a second in the top-left and then reboots. I can’t go into TTY because it reboots after a second… Fortunately I could chroot in and set a timeshift update, but I can’t keep going like this. I can’t really debug as I need to restore to even get back into the system.

Does anyone know how to debug something like this? I’m thinking of moving away from Manjaro if something like this is common.

First open a SUPPORT thread following basic guides like [HowTo] Provide System Information
Look at what happens when you update with Pacman, maybe there are clear errors in the log.

PS: Trying to get attention by ‘threatening’ to leave Manjaro for another distro is really not a good idea if you want to get help. Please open a thread to continue the discussion on your issue.

Hardly anyone would keep using Manjaro if such issue were common, obviously…

Running KDE, currently experiencing the following problems:
Akregator does not start up; running it in Konsole gives the message “Bus error (core dumped)”
Firefox once in a while slows the whole system down - I think it is when a video plays, but it is sporadic.

Rebooting removed the problem Akregator was having (this is the 2nd time I had to reboot due to odd errors) - for now, at least. I’ll see how Firefox behaves.

Did you expect that after a big upgrade,
everything should work right without rebooting?

If the kernel has been upgraded,
I guess the new one is not used until you reboot.
If components of KDE were upgraded, I think you would
need to logout/login to make the new components active (loaded in RAM) …

Linux has a reputation for long uptimes without rebooting,
but that’s on servers (no X-windows, no GUI)
while you’re not doing driver or kernel updates.

I’m not an expert, so this is open to correction / clarification …

tlpui stopped working after today’s tlp update. That happened because tlpui is version 1.4.0 while tlp was updated to 1.5.0. Temporarily installed tlpui-git.

After the update, Firefox was not my default browser anymore.
I had to choose it again in System Settings → Personalization → Applications, even though it was consistently set to FF.

Obviously I have no idea what any of this is, and it doesn’t seem to have any impact on practice (yet?) either, but reporting just in case anyway.

I run Manjaro KDE on a Lenovo PC since 2020 October.
I installed an Nvidia GTX 1650 card last May.
The latest Nvidia stable branch driver (470.94-6 )seems to be the worst since then.
Just look at the number of crashes this month.
Plasma and Nvidia are not good friends.
Thinking about getting an AMD GPU instead. Not easy for an old PC.

Hi,
I had the exact same issue* today, had to restore with timeshift. If there are any updates regarding this issue I would like to hear them.
Now running on 5.10.84-1 kernel, and using optimus-manager 1.4

*With the last update on Manjaro xfce version. The system starts but the vendor logo blinks many times and nothings happens.
