[Stable Update] 2021-06-14 - Kernels, Browsers, Mesa, Deepin, Systemd, Gnome Apps 40.2, Pipewire, Haskell

Please let us know as soon as possible. We will then install a different operating system on many of our older company computers.

Everything good on cinnamon… i used the 5.4 and had no problem, maybe i was lucky to update later.
To be sure i installed the 5.10, better off to have more than a kernel, who knows…

Thanks for the suggestion, but unfortunately my support for Manjaro is only the occasional donation (I was more active in surveying and trying to help out in the past but don’t anymore have the time actually). My point, that you obviously only perceived as “mere complaint” (because I was too short), is that I think that I can validly have the expectation from a stable branch (even if it is Arch based …) that the LTS kernels that are branded as “recommended” in the kernel manager, get their share of testing before release of the next stable update. That’s all.

If resources are spare, then I would recommend to do away support for some of the other special kernels, or just “unbrand” the LTS kernels as recommended (at least those that are not tested, because I would not recommend untested kernels).

My machine runs well with the 4.xx series, so why should I change gears? Now with the 5.10 running I have to rework the MX mouse wheel config … just a tiny example, and prior to the actual 5.10 and actual KDE Plasma, Plasma refused to even show up with the 5.xx series of kernels, while with 4.19.xy all was good. So I have become pretty conservative with updates, but still I like Manjaro, you know why? This install was initially done when kernel 4.4 was the newest one and I have it still running as my working horse… I have already seen that there is a workaround for systemd, so I say thank you devs, again (!!!). Best regards,
Benjamin

I used to have an nvidia card, and, man, i had troubles and issues almost everyday, on every distro.
Then i bought an amd card, and in two years i barely had an issue, the kernel drivers just work with no need to install huge proprietary packs.

What’s with the impatience? Anyways, the issue seems to be identified and resolved:

The issue with linux419 and systemd got resolved. The issue was an Aufs4 patch on our end, which got added by mistake 10 months ago. Due to changes in systemd to improve mounting of devices that patch from Aufs4 didn’t work anymore and created that issue.

Seems due to the incident we noticed that still some users use that old kernel, but we didn’t had any requests since ages to even provide install medias with that kernel series. The community reported it in our forums, but I had no time to review all the posts here, hence it slipped to stable branch.

I’m having troubles with my display manager and themes after the update. I performed the update and rebooted, and was faced with this:

I tried a few things to reinstall Breeze, and now the breeze files are there, but when I boot up, I get a black screen with nothing on it but a mouse cursor an GTK app appears. I can press alt-tab to get the window Switcher, but there’s only one option available.

This happens even if I go and try to switch themes to something else.

Any help resolving this would be greatly appreciated.

Please let me know what info I can provide that would help with the troubleshooting.

Okay, so in the TTY, I tried this:

which. Iguess sugge something wrong with xcb. After reading around online, I tried

sudo pacman -Syyu libxcb libe3-libxcb qt5-base

and this has not helped. I still get a blank screen with nothing but the mouse cursor on bootup

Xfce, Kernel 4.14: the update went fine and smooth.

However, after startup, in the journal log, I see these messages never seen before caused by alsa-lib alsa-ucm-conf:

alsactl[484]: alsa-lib parser.c:242:(error_node) UCM is not supported for this HDA model (HDA Intel PCH at 0xd0710000 irq 29)
alsactl[484]: alsa-lib main.c:1402:(snd_use_case_mgr_open) error: failed to import hw:0 use case configuration -6

You may still have some KDE-git packages on your PC. Check it via: pacman -Q | grep git and try to replace them with the regular packages.

In the mentioned page they say:

systemctl --user status pipewire
With pulseaudio 14.2 the output works

But I dont’ have pipewire, just the plain pulseaudio.

In today update I just had alsa-ucm-conf from 1.2.4-2 to 1.2.5-1 but ATM I don’t notice issues with audio.

Hm, I did look for this and try before, here is what I’m seeing

I havne’t been about to find non-git versions of mlocate and squashfs-tools.

Edit: I tried replacing mlocate with plocate to no avail.

Those are the official repo packages. With certain packages like those, Arch is pulling more recent commits beyond the latest release. Hence the versioning scheme.

Yeah. Just getting kinda desperate and can’t figure out what else to do.

I have this same issue and I am at a loss with what to do?

A post was split to a new topic: What is Pipewire and what does it do?

My 2 cents.

The SHA1 value - 9cd47445831dfd6770d4af0bbd9cdef16faf9934 - for manjaro-kde-21.0.7-210614-linux510.iso reported on the Downloads page - Manjaro - KDE Plasma - is wrong.
If you check the image you get instead 43f0f573d6c5d089cd280b622f228d1ea2933cf8.
The latter value corresponds to the one posted on the top of this thread.

Do you do the edit in the terminal?

Okay, so it seems I was able to solve my problem by doing

sudo pacman -S plasma-desktop

Somehow, when I did the update, a ton of applications including ones from KDE got removed, including kde-desktop, okular, Dolphin, firefox, emacs, steam etc.

I have no idea how this happened, I saw no indication it was happening when I upgraded. My problem is now solved, but I’m left a little disturbed.

The Pamac-Mannger crashes after the system update,I tried to uninstall and install “pamac-gtk” to no avail.
