[Stable Update] 2020-10-19 - Kernels, Nvidia 455, Browsers,

Hey guys. I get this issue, when trying to upgrade:
warning: cannot resolve “nvidia-450xx-utils=450.80.02”, a dependency of “linux54-nvidia-450xx”
warning: cannot resolve “nvidia-450xx-utils=450.80.02”, a dependency of “linux58-nvidia-450xx”

@philm is there a reason why you didn’t push the latest (86.0.4240.75-1) chromium release?

Kernel 4.19, Cinnamon, updated via pamac-gui. Works. Had to reboot twice (to make Firefox work) but fine now.
Note: In the stable-branch in my point of view pamac-gui should be THE way to go. User-friendly and simple. Very satisfied.

After the package update I switched to kernel 5.9.1-1 leaving the system unbootable.

It stopped after showing the manjaro boot logo, no way to switch to console. Only crtl-alt-del worked. Choosing 5.8 from grub everything is ok.

Hi,
I get the following:

Found initrd fallback image: /boot/initramfs-5.8-x86_64-fallback.img
grub-probe: error: cannot find a GRUB drive for /dev/sdc1. Check your device.map.
Error while configuring

Device sdc is a usb drive that initiallly had a Manjaro ISO on it.
I re-partitioned it and reformatted it.
It is my Borg Backup drive.

I think the warning is because the drive is seen as bootable.

Can I make it un-bootable and therefore keep the data on the drive AND get rid of the warning?

Or have misunderstood the Warning. :man_shrugging:

yeah don’t do it (yet), details:

Update your mirrors and force refresh your database, then try to update.
Your mirror is not synced.

I second this. I figured this wouldn’t be an issue because I was moving up to the 455 version, but I’ve noticed weird freezing with it and Plasma or X11. Unfortunately, now I can’t downgrade back to 450 because of the dependency issue.

Some of my wine-games aren’t running after the update. Neither with kernel 5.8 nor with 5.4.

got these error messages, should I reboot ?

KDE Plasma, kernel 5.4.75-1, all’s well after updating and rebooting.

Cheers to all :+1:

Did you try to rename (for backup, don’t delete it) your wine prefix to start with a fresh prefix?

Seems to have done the trick. Thanks!

I had the same issue as you. Removing the 450xx drivers and installing the newest 455xx fixed it!
Here are the commands I used:
sudo mhwd -r pci video-nvidia-450xx
sudo mhwd -i pci video-nvidia-455xx

# mhwd --install pci video-nvidia-455xx
Error: config 'video-nvidia-455xx' conflicts with config(s): video-nvidia-450xx

This is without any Nvidia drivers installed.

Edit: managed to upgrade to 455 by running:
sudo mhwd -r pci video-nvidia-450xx
sudo mhwd -i pci video-nvidia-455xx

That’s similar to what I did, but I found the 455xx drivers to make Plasma unstable and freeze frequently.

I think they have to remove the 5.7 Kernel because it’s EOL don’t know why it’s still in repos. :woman_shrugging:

Steam won’t start anymore. Using Nvidia 450. Other accelerated programs (eg. glxgears) and non-Steam games are working fine.

(Edit: fixed after upgrading to Nvidia 455.)

Symlinks to NFS-mounted directories now show up as broken in Thunar, Nautilus and the Places panel widget. The symlinks are not broken and can be entered with command line tools (cd, ls). Other file managers (Midnight Commander, PCManFM, Dolphin) are working correctly.
