[Stable Update] 2020-10-01 - Kernels, Mesa, KDE-Framework, Deepin, Systemd, Pamac, Xorg-Server, Qt

No one said you should blindly do anything. If you’re not sure, disagree and watch the process fail. Then you know you must agree.

Nothing wrong with asking, either way. :wink:

Don’t install ruby gems with root. Either use repo packages or set a GEM_HOME environment variable:

export GEM_HOME=$HOME/local/gems
$ gem install rhc

Is there some sort of merge tool that we are supposed to use for this. Up until about a month or so ago I hadn’t realised what this was and would just blindly overwrite the existing file with the *.pacnew. That was until I messed up my laptop. Now I run diff on the two files and either manually edit the old file with nano, then delete the *.pacnew file or manually edit the *.pacnew file and use mv to overwrite the old file with it; whichever is easier. This does feel a bit clunky though. I was wondering whether anyone has a better way?

As a noob I do not even want to imagine what monster :space_invader: the OS turns into if you say NO at those points. :wink:

In my eyes those moments are preset traps for us, noob Win users. You know our response: interrupt!

Hello,

I had the following issue:
make the uptade
restart
login in the session
then black screen and the cursor !

I tried “alt space” to launch something: it was possible to launch the applications.

Then I tried the solution on the above post:
If anyone else has the issue with plasmashell starting and stopping, check if they have the plasmoid “eventcalendar”. Deleting it fixed the problem for me.
.local/share/plasma/plasmoids/org.kde.plasma.eventcalendar

restart

and then, all was ok; thank you guys :grinning:

such a big issue with a small “event calendar” plasmoid;

again thank you all

Everything seems be okay. I only noticed my terminal open up like full size, i need resize my terminal everytime when i open it. I never noticed it before this update.

A post was split to a new topic: Not enough free disk space

Thanks for posting…same way i fixed my terminal after the update

After update i have problem with graphics.
Plasma write me:
Desktop effects have been suspended by another application.
You can resume using the ‘Alt+Shift+F12’ shortcut.

I try it, but this shortcut is not work and I try restart system several times, but this problem not resolve.

What happen?

I resolved this problem. I make logout, but this is very strange…

Why do not shortcut work?

I’ve found a very odd problem with KDE/Plasma widgets. I have a couple of desktop widgets that sit close to the bottom of my screen, viz:

But since this update, while they start in the correct place when they first appear after I log in, but at about the time the panels appear, they’re forced upwards, viz:

I’ve tried moving the panels to different edges in case they were somehow forcing this, but evidently this is not the case. At this point I’m stumped.

I can prove that this is due to the latest update, as booting into my rescue system, built from my backup before the update, the widgets stay in place correctly.

After the update, darktable segfaults
darktable:18047): GLib-CRITICAL **: 16:35:24.506: g_variant_unref: assertion 'value != NULL' failed
can somebody confirm?

@beermad, wait for the next update, in testing branch it’s already fixed.

Hello everyone,
Just wanted to mention in case someone else has this issue: when I rebooted my laptop after this update, the wifi didn’t work. My network manager widget reported something like “no devices found”, and I had an error like iwlwifi: failed to start INIT ucode -110 in my dmesg. Somehow I solved it by rebooting again.
