How is Manjaro behaving on 11th Intel CPU and Xe GPUs?

I am going to buy a ThinkPad X13 and I want to know if the Intel version (i7-1165G7 and Intel Iris Xe Graphics 96 Tiger Lake) or the AMD version(Zen 3 and Vega 8 Renoir) is more suitable for me, does anyone have a test?

Yes I know maybe much of you are using very old computers running Linux so I wonder if this question is good here.

I want to know mainly about kernel and graphics card support. Which one supports better? video-linux has some freezes on my Intel UHD-620 maybe same with these sites:

Arch Wiki – Cinnamon https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Cinnamon#Installation

Arch Wiki – Intel Graphics https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Intel_graphics#Installation

KDE Community – Plasma 5.9 Errata Plasma/5.9 Errata - KDE Community Wiki

I’m not sure if this is helpful but you could lookup the specific hardware you have on https://linux-hardware.org/?view=trends and from that point you know how well the hardware is supported in the kernel and if there are issues. I assume that if consumer hardware runs on one flavor the probability is high that it works on another.

The best match is this. This website is good but it still lacks much new computers like X13/T14/P15 after 2020.

I’m using a yoga14s laptop with Ryzen R7 5800H and Vega8 Renoir, and Manjaro runs smooth on my laptop.
The only hardware problem is that there will be a ‘Failed to start Load/Save Screen Backlight Brightness of backlight:acpi_video0’ from systemd when booting. However that is because it uses amdgpu_b10 instead, so this ‘problem’ doesn’t really affect anything.
(BTW all the ThinkPad X13s with Ryzen CPU I can find from jd.com are the older ZEN2 models. Is Lenovo about to update that model?

Yes, lenovo has not show out new Zen3 Thinkpad yet, I have been waiting for this for a long, long time. Those are last year’s version.

Dose your Wi-Fi work?

Works perfectly

I would be interested in this as well. I have a new System 76 Darter Pro with the latest and greatest chipset. I would suspect that I need a 5.14 Kernel or even the 5.15 since I would not be sure that the 5.10 Kernel would support Xe Graphics.

I have the same CPU and GPU (Iris Xe) and Manjaro works smoothly and without issue, for the most part. Good temperatures, intelligent fans and dynamic CPU performance governor (intel_pstate).

However, when resuming from suspend, there’s a chance that the system will appear unresponsive for several seconds. Sometimes it resume instantly, and other times I have to wait several seconds. This might be a KDE/Plasma issue, not specific to my hardware or Linux itself.

EDIT: Just noticed you already acquired the laptop? How has it been for you with KDE? Do you notice the same “delay” when resuming from suspend with KDE?

Why not the starlabs mk V, since it has the coreboot firmware and it’s made for linux?

  1. watchdog cannot be disabled, I have tried all the things I can do with https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/249654/message-at-shutdown-watchdog-did-not-stop and Improving performance - ArchWiki
Update: fixed after testing update 10-05, maybe because new kernel has found

  2. keyboard delay on pamac-gui when searching for pkgs

Huh, I noticed that too. I thought it was just the new Pamac version, but I don’t notice the same keyboard delay on a slower and older system (with an Nvidia GPU).

Maybe it’s Intel GPU related? Maybe Pamac uses some GPU rendering? :woman_shrugging:
