  • Octopi gained Trizen support
  • We worked on Cinnamon v3.8 and v4.17 kernel series and on our Adapta and Vertex themes
  • Our Manjaro Tools adopted support for OSDN storage.
  • We updated most of our Kernels; v4.15 series is now EOL
  • Mesa 18.0.1 now implements the OpenGL 4.5 API

Known issues and solutions

This is a wiki post; please edit as necessary.

Long delay for starting Desktop Environment

There’s a bug which is exhausting the entropy pool. This is refilled over time through e.g. disk activity and mouse movement. You can increase the fill rate with a software solution:

sudo pacman -S haveged
sudo systemctl enable haveged
sudo systemctl start haveged

Users of Gnome may consider to update from within a TTY terminal

Due to several reports not being able to login to the current Gnome session after the user may got logged out, we recomment to use pacman and a TTY terminal for this update. Following steps are therefore needed:

  • logout of your current Gnome session
  • in your display manager session press CTRL+ALT+F3 to open TTY3
  • login with your user or as root and initiate the update via sudo pacman -Syyu
  • after the update completed you may check the pacman.log for issues. Do this with less /var/log/pacman.log. With page-up and page-down you can navigate thru the file. With typing :q you may end less.
  • fix your system as needed and reboot with sudo reboot

Noto Sans Mono has incorrect spacing or has vanished (under KDE)

This has been reported upstream but hasn’t yet been fixed. For the meantime please install noto-fonts-compat: sudo pacman -S noto-fonts-compat

[linux417][i915] Could not determine valid watermarks for inherited state [PATCH AVAILABLE]

[linux414 and newer] ACPI Error: Needed type [Reference], found [Integer]

During boot you have something like this:

ACPI Error: Needed type [Reference], found [Integer] 00000000cfdd7926 (20170831/exresop-103)
ACPI Exception: AE_AML_OPERAND_TYPE, While resolving operands for [Store] (20170831/dswexec-461)
ACPI Error: Method parse/execution failed \_PR.CPU0._PDC, AE_AML_OPERAND_TYPE (20170831/psparse-550)

Bugreport 198781 [STATUS: RESOLVED WILL_NOT_FIX]

Workaround

Edit /etc/default/grub and add in GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT line AFTER quiet word these: vga=current loglevel=3 rd.systemd.show_status=auto rd.udev.log_priority=3
Next update grub : sudo update-grub.
Last thing is creating SYSCTL rule:

sudo bash -c "echo ‘kernel.printk = 3 3 3 3’ > /etc/sysctl.d/20-quiet-printk.conf"

Reboot.

Samba Network Shares Broken On XFCE

The latest stable update (2018-04-28) may disable smbd and nmbd on XFCE.
thunar-shares-plugin-manjaro is uninstalled, which disables smbd and nmbd.
thunar-shares-plugin is installed, but does not re-enable smbd and nmbd.

Re-enable smbd and nmbd

systemctl enable smbd nmbd

Can't login after update, again
#3

ive got this error message. i am just a noob and dont know what that mean but my system works :hugs:

#4

Ignore this. If you cleanup locales - then pacman warning about missing files.

#5

thats what im normally doing ignoring error messages if i dont know what to do :joy:

#6

Nemo is now using it’s own icons for side panel and right click menu, like Nautilus i guess, duh

Chromium logged off from any website

#7

Yeah, I had that a couple of weeks ago. Chrome devs changed something in previous beta causing all cookies to be wiped.

#8

Noticed a small visual glitch with the gnome-terminal (fedora patches) icon. I am not entirely sure if it already exists after the last stable update (gnome 3.28), just noticed today.

Already tried using different themes/icons, but the problem persists.

Thank you for the great community work you are doing with manjaro!

#9

Great Update!
Thank you very much, Team!

xfce
Don’t know if this means anything. I have not updated as yet. When I click update & it checks, there are updates…of course. If I click ‘details’ all I get is a blank black box.

Edit: Pay no attention to the Doofus behind the …DOH!

No issues noticed so far, XFCE.

virtualbox-ext-oracle is an AUR package. Apparently something wrong with the checksums. You need to contact the maintainer. There’s nothing Manjaro can do about it, sorry.

Both Lappy & Tower’s KDE updated fine. Thank goodness for @philm’s wiki post though, otherwise i’d have had no idea what to do re ACPI. Thanks also to @bogdancovaciu for generous PM assistance to sate some uncertainties i had wrt how to apply the solution before doing the reboot.

Two minor matters:

  1. Some months ago i chose to install virtualbox-ext-oracle from AUR rather than my previous mode of me directly fetching from Oracle site & manually installing through VB GUI. Today the AUR method failed, at the sha256 checksum. The package maintainer somehow has the wrong sum in the PKGBUILD, so the fix was to edit it & replace the wrong 8c31bc1d0337e6668e0d9140defc6deaf265087f855783dd09b873a064a70703 with the valid 5eef217dbe0a8e8caf383ea8db83344517af0f9093041b5345c8468a427b327b [per Oracle site]. All good thereafter.

  2. Sadly, today’s update did not solve the lingering small issue that broke with the 20180414 update; KWin Regression in “[Stable Update] 2018-04-14”. Oh well, small potatoes in the bigger scheme of things.

Hi,
I am seeing massive display corruption when using 4.16 and 4.17 kernel, with this update and gnome on a Phenom II X6 1055T CPU and Radeon RX 550 Series (POLARIS12) GPU with open source drivers.

4.14 kernel does not lead to gnome crashes so far but some distorton and lag is visible shortly after login.

I do not know where to look for log files or other clues about what may cause this, but I took two images before and after login with kernel 4.16:

I would appreciate any help.

kind regards,
