[Stable Update] 2017-04-02 - Mesa-Stack, Kernels, Plasma, Firefox

update
stable

#165

I think sda1 is wrong. Use your actual partition name. /dev/sdb1. Do unmount it first.

#166

It’s /dev/sdb1. Thanks

#167

Still in the emergency shell after update-grub.

Got a warning: Failed to connect lvmetad.
& error: mkdir /var/lock/dmraid

#168

In my experience you can ignore these errors, they occur when running update-grub from a chroot session. The resulting /boot/grub.cfg file should still generate okay.

#169

But, manjaro still boots in the emergency shell.

#170

What gpu and driver are you using?

inxi -G
mhwd -li

Have you checked for pacnew files that need to be applied?

#171

#172

A quick “what worked here”. My main partition is a year-old openRC (aaditya) that’s been religiously updated.

I read the thread carefully and noted all the problems. Decided to upgrade my kernel first, to the most recent LTS. On reboot, even though no updates had taken place, the system appeared to boot normally, but hung with a blinking cursor.

I used the Ctrl-Alt-F2 trick and updated with an -Syyu …
(a flood of keyring changes came first, and …)

That worked. So I will proceed similarly for other partitions and boxes.

Thanks as always for all you do.

#173

cat: /var/pacman.log: No such file or directory

#174

It’s a good idea to use pacman for system updates.
You could try pacman next time.
It is always good to learn different ways of doing things.

#175

Had an issue with very poor touchpad performance after this update, I know someone else also mentioned that. I didn’t have time to mess about with xf86-input-libinput settings, so just installed xf86-input-synaptics, and tweaked touchpad in Manjaro Settings. All working well now, but I understand xf86-input-libinput is the way to go, so will have to have a look when I get time.
Anyone else with this issue ?
Acer Aspire V15 V3-575G laptop, with Elantech Touchpad.

#176

/var/log/pacman.log

#177

Come on dude, use a bit of initiative, it was obviously a typo so cd /var and take a look around.

The file is /var/log/pacman.log.

Also, take a look at this, given you are not even getting the grub menu any more.

https://wiki.manjaro.org/index.php/Restore_the_GRUB_Bootloader

#178

Applied bumblebee & lightdm .pacnew

Still in the emergency shell.

Even tried grub-install

#179

Just to come back to the problem, because there is a lot of information scattered in this post:

  • The error message you receive at boot
  • the file /etc/fstab
  • the file /boot/grub/grub.cfg
  • an extract of the journal errors if you have some (journalctl -p 3 -xb)
  • the log of xorg (/var/log/Xorg.0.log)

Might be best to start your own dedicated thread with this info as a starting post.

Instead of tty access it may be easier if you boot into a Manjaro Live environment, much easier to capture and post troubleshooting info, without have to take a picture of it.

For large amounts of text (ie grub.cfg and full xorg logs) please pastebin it.

So just to clarify, updating via this method is probably a good idea to at least minimize the probability of errors? (Haven’t tried updating yet)

No sure it will resolve all your issues but the small warning at the beginning of your error message indicates that the initramfs was not generated correctly and therefore not detecting your modules.
If you can chroot into your env and run following command:

mkinitcpio -k /boot/vmlinuz-4.10-x86_64 -c /etc/mkinitpio.conf -g /boot/initramfs-4.10-x86_64.img

post if you receive any error.
