Pamac did it correctly for me, and several others.
Perhaps not trying to micromanage this update was the proper approach.
Pamac found the first two updates,
Did those correctly,
Checked again for updates, and found over a hundred more,
Did those correctly on the second pass.
Reading upstream in this thread it seems that most of the people having problems interrupted this sequence with little side ventures, reboots, start-overs or something.
The real question is:
Here we are with another 200+ post disaster thread for a minor point release of Stable.
If the users can't be somehow induced to follow a 5 step script for a release, then perhaps the tools should be improved so that this can be automated?
Pamac worked for me, but I suppose it failed for others, I don't know. But from where I sit it looks like the command line guys had far more trouble with this update than the GUI guys.
If we dare not update our stable systems without checking the forums, then pamac and octopi should not have notification-and-upgrade capabilities built into their notifier portions.
As it was, for my simple system Pamac did it all correctly.
