[Testing Update] 2020-08-17 - KDE-git, Pamac, Nvidia 450.57, Haskell, Python

Hm, I see it to, maintainer of the package prevent Linux 5.8 and higher so we will See.

https://aur.archlinux.org/cgit/aur.git/log/?h=vmware-workstation

Also on Version 14

Only workaround is to downgrade or recompile your lib32-nvidia-440xx-utils with corrections to use the 32-bit libraries instead of the 64-bit ones. Other than those, you’ll have to wait for the maintainer to issue a corrected package.

I can’t tell if you’re trying to be funny or if you are somehow angry/annoyed. I’m leaning towards the latter.

  • if you’re trying for funny: please make that clearer
  • if you were annoyed: please just leave that out and take a break

@freggel.doe you left out the important part: The reported error is already fixed and released. The amount of nonsense complaints in the forum is a bit high, already was in the last forum. If the tone/number of nonsense complaints does not change, I would not be surprised if team members decide to leave.

No issues here - on AMD though

Its easy to say when you are not affected, but i also think that there is serious over-reaction here considering it is already fixed…

No issues here, but I haven’t installed the NVIDIA update because I’d like steam to still continue to work.

When I updated to the 450 drivers my system is fell back to the nouveau drivers.

Same here.

I was able to manually install the drivers and utilities with pamac, but that somehow broke mhwd, as it still thought I was running 440.100. However nvidia-smi listed 450.57 as active.

Anyway, I went back to stable, downgraded ffmpeg and x264 and I’m happy waiting for this update to reach stable.

edit: i uninstalled “linux-latest-nvidia-440xx” now i can remove the driver
450 driver installed but steam does not work needs 32 bit libraries as stated above
now on to the maintainers to fix the libraries
I hope they will add the 450.66 driver

That’s a common issue which can happen often with virtually most packages, just read the error message and ‘reverse it’ to see where it blocks:

error failed to prepare transaction (could not satisfy dependencies)
removing linux57-nvidia-440xx breaks dependency ‘linux57-nvidia-440xx’ required by linux-latest-nvidia-440xx

The important part being the package linux-latest-nvidia-440xx which initially blocked your action because of dependencies breakage.

The thing is the file should of been depreciated by the update and removed allowing for the 450 update to finish without error. The issue is either something with the updates Manjaro pushed or with the 450 driver itself.

I think this is how this meta package is intended to work but I can be mistaken.

I upgraded my kernel to 5.8, but i couldn’t logon. it’s stuck on sddm login screen and can’t move the mouse. But update on kernel 5.7 and kernel 4.19 are fine, i can boot and logon to kde plasma desktop. i am still searching for solution to this.

No issues noticed on update process: XFCE + BTRFS + linux57

Not only the build of the vmware modules fails (these problems are usually fixed by https://github.com/mkubecek/vmware-host-modules ) but opening vmware also results in immediate segfaults on Linux 5.8.
VMware said, they will fix it with Version 16, but there is no information on when they plan to release that. See https://github.com/mkubecek/vmware-host-modules/issues/70 and https://communities.vmware.com/thread/638457
I don’t think vmware 16 will come very soon and as Linux 5.7 will probably go EOL in October and I don’t want to go back to Linux 5.4 I’m currently looking into the best way of not needing vmware anymore.

Will prime also get updated to support the new nvidia drivers? Also the hybrid version of prime.

Read it myself looks a right mess. Might have to switch to virtual box when 5.7 goes E.O.L which is a shame

Had to downgrade linux58-virtualbox-host-modules from 6.1.12-5 to 6.1.12-4 on my thinkpad T14 gen 1 (AMD Ryzen 4650u) with this update to let Virtualbox vm (win10) start normally. Anyway, good work from the team.

Interesting. Same device here with 4750U. For me it is the other way around. 12-4 didn’t want to work. The new 12-5 is fine (I don’t use win 10 guests though).

Sounds strange yes. Even on linux guest, I’ve the error message about kernel module version doesn’t match.
My VB version is 6.1.12-4, so this is why I downgrade host-modules to 6.1.12-4.
