Spontaneous reboots at random times

For a while I’ve been having random spontaneous reboots and today worked out how to get the error.

[ 0.768738] [Hardware Error]: System Fatal error.
[ 0.768746] [Hardware Error]: CPU:0 (17:1:1) MC5_STATUS[-|UE|MiscV|-|PCC|TCC|SyndV|-|-|-]: 0xbaa0000000090150
[ 0.768761] [Hardware Error]: IPID: 0x000500b000000000, Syndrome: 0x000000004d000001
[ 0.768770] [Hardware Error]: Execution Unit Ext. Error Code: 9
[ 0.768771] [Hardware Error]: cache level: RESV, tx: INSN, mem-tx: IRD

From my limited knowledge it seems to be related to my CPU, maybe the cache. I haven’t over/underclocked and my temps are well below any that would cause an issue. My ram is set to the XMP profile that came with it but other than that no voltage/clock speed changes.

Here’s relevant fastfetch outputs:

OS: Manjaro Linux x86_64
Host: AB350 Pro4
Kernel: Linux 6.12.11-1-MANJARO
DE: GNOME 47.3
WM: Mutter (Wayland)
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 1600X (12) @ 3.60 GHz
GPU: AMD Radeon RX 480 Graphics [Discrete]
Memory: 5.98 GiB / 31.27 GiB (19%)
Swap: 0 B / 34.40 GiB (0%)

Hello and welcome,

Is not the most useful.
Please show inxi -zv8

XMP can cause the crashes you are talking about. Make sure you’re on the latest Bios/firmware then start experimenting with some conservative manual ram settings.

I’ll have a look at the XMP now, thank you

It would appear you do have BIOS updates available.
If the search-fu is correct: ASRock > AB350 Pro4

A warning - the root ( / ) partition is getting rather full.
Usually something like 10% would be considered the danger zone.
In your case its a large enough partition that the 6.4% is roughly equal to 52 G … but it still would probably be a good idea to try and free up some space.

Having done a rough calculation* it looks like the whole disk is getting rather close to the recommended “fill limit” for an SSD, according to what I’ve read and been told about. this could possibly cause performance issues, due to the way (some) SSDs work.

This figure, in this case, being about 88.825% used.

* I omitted the small but almost empty efi; simply summed and divided the rest to give a “close-enough” result:
