when I take screenshots with spectacle, it somehow always is way too big to paste and everything kinda breaks… the only thing that fixes it is saving it as a picture first and that kinda sucks
You can use flameshot instead if you have problems with spectacle . file a bug report on https://bugs.kde.org if you can So spectacle can get better 
I wonder if this is a situation involving forced or emulated resolution?
