Sound popping/crackling randomly

Hello,

I installed Manjaro XFCE last week and I have a little issue with my sound on any application. Randomly I have a pop/crack sound and I see the sound level notification appear (Without touching the sound level). I tried everything I found, but nothing seems to work.

First, I tried with (~/.pulse/default.pa):

load-module module-udev-detect tsched=0

Changing buffer size (~/.pulse/default.pa):

update-sink-proplist alsa_output.pci-0000_00_1f.3.analog-stereo device.buffering.buffer_size=1048576

The snd-hda-intel (/etc/modprobe.d/sound.conf):

options snd-hda-intel vid=8086 pid=8ca0 snoop=0

Disabling flat volumes (/etc/pulse/daemon.conf):

flat-volumes = no

Everytime I restart pulseaudio and, if I heard a new pop/crack, I restart my computer too.

I have 2 audio outputs, audio jack for music/video/games/etc… and an usb output for voice (discord/TS/etc…). The issue is only for jack output, so, I don’t think it’s related to my issue, but I have a config for my voice channel because usb has 4 channels but I only need 1:

load-module module-combine-sink sink_name=voiceChannel slaves=alsa_output.usb-Allen___Heath_ZEDi10-00.analog-surround-40 channels=1
update-sink-proplist voiceChannel device.description="Voice Channel"

This is my sink list:

I think I said everything

thank you in advance for help

Could you also provide an inxi --admin --verbosity=7 --filter --no-host --widthas that would be the minimum required information… (Personally Identifiable Information like serial numbers and MAC addresses will be filtered out by the above command)

:+1:

Sorry, I didn’t know this command ^^

  1. I don’t have your hardware, but this looks old:

    Try upgrading your firmware first.

  2. Does this also happen on kernel 5.4?

  3. Just to be absolutely sure: this is happening on your Intel sink and not on HDMI connected to a TV or HiFi, correct?

  1. Seems to not have update for UEFI:
Devices with no available firmware updates:
 • UEFI dbx
 • ZEDi10
  1. Ok, I try

  2. I didn’t tried HDMI sound, but this isn’t happenning with my voice channel, only with intel sink.

This is happening on kermel 5.4 too

I have the same issue too while listening to on-line music.

I am using a SONY WH-1000XM3 bluetooth earphone, and I am sure that it is OK.

I am at unstable channel and I recently updated:

libmfx-21.2.3-1 nspr-4.32-1 pango-1:1.48.7-1

I solved it by

sudo pacman -Rsu pulseaudio-bluetooth pulseaudio-equalizer pulseaudio-jack pulseaudio-lirc pulseaudio-rtp pulseaudio-zeroconf pulseaudio pulseaudio-ctl pulseaudio-qt

sudo pacman -S pipewire-pulse
2 Likes

But now I cannot control the volume by my keyboard.

I don’t understand what I have to do with this.

I can’t install manjaro-pipewire, because there’s a conflict with manjaro-pulse. Then pipewire-pulse is in conflict with pulseaudio.

So I need to uninstall pulseaudio and manjaro-pulse? But, is my config with combine will work with pipewire things?

Check if hotkeys for volume control are set correctly in System Settings. That’s all I can think of.

The volume control keys is system default which you can see the Surface Pro keyboard

Try pipewire pulse, this is better and I have been using without problems

sudo pacman -Rsu pulseaudio-bluetooth pulseaudio-equalizer pulseaudio-jack pulseaudio-lirc pulseaudio-rtp pulseaudio-zeroconf pulseaudio pulseaudio-ctl pulseaudio-qt

sudo pacman -S pipewire-pulse
