Sometimes when I boot up my laptop it's just black screen

I have Manjaro i3wm installed on my Acer Aspire A315-35.

Sometimes, when I turn my laptop on, it doesn’t go to the lightdm login screen and just goes black. I just press the power button to turn it off then turn it on again and it doesn’t go to just black screen anymore. Is there a way to fix this?

We know almost nothing about your system

So we might start with that.

But my first guess is dual-boot with “Fast-Startup” enabled. :crystal_ball:

(This windoze feature really just means it hibernates instead of shutting down … then the held power button forces a full power cycle.)

I replaced that OS with Manjaro completely so I’ll just need to find a way to disable fastboot and hopefully the black screen don’t show anymore.
I’ll find a way

You should be able to get into the BIOS settings by pressing either the DEL or F2 keys immediately at power-on (these are the common ones for Acer laptops).

If you’re thinking of the Windows “hibernate” feature (Fast Startup), this won’t be an issue if no Windows installation remains.

Hopefully by not skipping certain BIOS checks (Fast Boot) it will improve things. Worth a try.
