Some wifis are not found

The network in my sports club is open for guests. It is visible both on my mobile phone (Android) and on my PC, if I boot Windows. However, if I boot Manjaro on my PC, that network does not exist, I can’t connect.

For long time I did not pursue that issue, but recently the same happened in my friend’s house. I tried to access his router and the same happened again. On my mobile phone his network (router) is shown, also If I boot Windows on my PC. . If I boot Manjaro, I see various other networks in his house, bit his network is invisible and I can’t connect.

What is different in Manjaro? Is there an explanation?

A few points that you can find out until someone comes along who knows more than I do.:

  • What is the name of the wifi (SSID) ?
  • Does it contain spaces or other special characters ?
  • What type of wifi is it ? (generation)

Try to get as much info about it with android

To not see a particular network, it is either the band or the channel. Most probably a different regulatory domain set on the router and on the pc. The upper channels on 2.4ghz and on 5ghz are only available in some countries.

iw reg get

Might give you insight for the current settings.

It might be worth installing linssid as this will let you see what networks are within range at any given location. Maybe this will also reveal the “missing” ones?

I think @Teo is on to something here. Are your regions / locales set differently on Linux vs. Android and Windows?
