Some function keys not working

Function keys for screen brightness don’t work.
volume functions keys say volume is going up and down but in youtube music they have no effect.

Ok I don’t know what you mean by that.
I read the article and it doesn’t address the issue I am having.

I agree, the solution to your issue is not there. I am guessing Olli did not read the article carefully and mistook the backlight issue this laptop apparently had on kernel 4.6 with the problem you described. I would just disregard the comment.

On some distros it looks like LXQt assigns brightness shortcuts to Ctrl+Shift+F6 or F7. Are those shortcuts doing anything? I’m wondering if perhaps there is a conflict somewhere.

Were the FN keys previously working and stopped, or has it always been like this?

If you boot into the live environment (from the USB stick you installed from), do the FN shortcuts work?

Installing acpid and starting it got the brightness controls working but the sound still doesn’t change in youtube music.

I’ll try the Ctrl shortcuts and see if they work and try the live manjaro usb and see what happens.

A tricky aspect of managing keyboard shortcuts in LXQT is there are global keyboard shortcuts which can be modified in config files, but then Openbox has its own keyboard shortcut system. The global keyboard shortcuts are supposed to take precedence, but my experience with LXQT is sometimes they do not.

Try explicitly changing the keybindings from the defaults to the FN key combos you want in the Openbox keyboard shortcut GUI (it’s somewhere in the settings menu).

Ok it definitely has to do with my LXQT install . The volume function keys work with my KDE install just fine.
I’ll do some reading.
I will mark this solved.
